Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Searching for LHR-ZRH flights in March 2023 and all the flights display the RFS icon. However, the prices I’m quoted are all much higher (e.g. 9500 Avios + £ 122.80).

I hold multiple avios credit cards so I’ve earned plenty of avios in the last 12 months. I’ve also made several cash flights recently. Is this a bug?

Logging in and out again seemed to fix it. Odd!

I saw that today as well on Amsterdam and Lyon routes. It was fine yesterday.

It’s either an IT glitch or they are preparing to abolish RFS as the next step in devaluation.

I had that last night as well. Refreshed the search or did it again and it reverted to the rfs rate and when it showed the incorrect cash element when I clicked through it showed the correct cost.

I am having the same issue – wanting to book last minute tickets to Paris for tomorrow but i’m not seeing the RFS prices… just the full taxes. If I book at the full price, what are the chances of a refund from BA…?

Zero. Have you earned any avios in the last 12 months? Have you tried logging out and in again? Have you tried using a different browser?

I need a MAN-LHR next October and initially I’m getting the expected pricing options but when I click through to the booking screen I get:

    9250 Avios + £ 29.80
    8500 Avios + £ 34.80
    7250 Avios + £ 39.80
    4750 Avios + £ 49.80
    3700 Avios + £ 64.80
    2950 Avios + £ 74.80

I think it must be an IT glitch, or the usual options wouldn’t appear at the outset. I don’t know if calling BA would result in normal pricing, that is obviously a PITA though!

Last night, I was also getting conflicting peak/off-peak search results for the same date for the same destination (Lyon) in different browsers. This morning it’s back to normal.

I think it’s more than an IT glitch, they are doing something behind the scenes.

    This is not good news.

Whenever we see something like this something radical pops up a month later.

If we’re lucky it’s a sale which would be my bet. Not seen BA bother too much with Black Friday in various years – I mean, they send emails but there’s never any offer of substance behind them. If they do something this month I would expect it to be interesting, possibly very interesting.

Benefit-wise they do seem to be aligning with the current benefits offer of Easyjet. Wonder how long IAG will think they ought to wait after hoovering up so many subsidies in covid, before they try to add Easyjet to Air Europa they also circled back and grabbed, after first being told hands off by regulators?

Zero chance UK regulators let IAG buy Easyjet

Don’t worry, UK regulators wouldn’t get much of a say if Spanish registered IAG bought easyJet Europe.

I don’t think the EU commission would be happy either!

Outside of Spain, there isn’t a great deal of crossover between easyJet and IAG. Sure, a small number of routes might need to be transferred to a third party (same as happened with the initial Air Europa deal). And I am obviously not including UK domestic here as that’s out of jurisdiction.

Eventually it worked after the tenth time logging in/out and trying different browsers…

Yes I have BAPP and Barclays avios card! Def some IT issues going on.

I think something might have happened to RFS bookings. This is me trying to book EDI – LHR return in economy this morning??

    18000 Avios + £ 55.24

    15500 Avios + £ 65.24

    10500 Avios + £ 85.24

    8100 Avios + £ 125.24

What in the world in going on. Same issue on BUD-LHR for August 13.

Sounds like a good title for a HFP article – though maybe “What in zones 1 – 3 is going on?!”

MAN-LHR looks to be back to normal pricing now, at least.

Until the next day. They are obviously doing some works on the pricing. I’m speculating, but I have a feeling that RFS will be gone in the new year without any advance notice.
