Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Routes to Mauritius on Avios + Companion Voucher

  • 3 posts

    Hey all!

I thought I’d consult some other travel pros to ensure I haven’t missed anything. I’m looking for flights to Mauritius this Oct/ November using avois and a companion voucher for atleast one of the legs. Yes, I know it’s very late for direct flights as there is little to no availability for direct flights but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for another route that tends to have better reward availability. We are very flexible with our plans and don’t mind stopping over somewhere else.

    Thanks in advance!

DOH usually has good availability (often even in F), you could use your 241 to get there then get a connecting flight on QR, if they serve MRU (not 100% sure on this). Or DXB, as Emirates very likely to go MRU, though DXB is harder to get with avios than DOH.

Otherwise somewhere in Africa, e.g. NBO? Or CPT/JNB, though these are very difficult to get – your 241 might unlock extra availability though, especially if you’re prepared to fly from a regional airport.

Jo’burg is a route that quite often seems to have extra seats appear and isn’t a long flight to Mauritius so that could be an option. Maybe set up some Seatspy alerts.

The problem with Doha or Dubai is the onward flight buying out of those airports can be expensive, just as expensive if not more than a flight ex-UK!

Nairobi and Cape Town I think are very hard to get extra seats on

Hey, I just came back from MRU, our of interest, any particular reason why you want to get there? What are your expectations and what kind of holiday are you looking for?
Where are you planning to stay?
I examined the full range of options through several carriers, do you only have Avios or other pots to be used?
At the moment they use an old 777, i was not too impressed, i think it’s the old configuration in J…
Feel free to ask, I should also be at the party if I can get some tickets tomorrow after today’s trial and errors..

Thanks for the replies so far! Routes via somewhere in Africa seem the most feasible at the moment.

idrive – Well we loved the Maldives and wanted somewhere with a very relaxed but premium vibe again. Planning to do nothing but relax.

We have 153,000 points on our Amex rewards account too so that is something else to consider. I’m just not familiar with the airlines in this corner of the world.

Well I checked out of interest and it doesn’t look like QR fly to MRU, which I find odd as they seem to have 4 flights per day to Maldives as well as 1 to SEZ!

Connections from DOH are really good value with avios – e.g. one way to MLE in economy (doable as it’s only 4 1/2 hours), is 17,500 avios plus about £60.

I would say look at SEZ, but it’s a rubbish departure time, 0245! What’s that about?!

Lol, I just do lots of research so that when I’m ready to book I know what I’m doing! It’s easy enough to go on the BA and/or QR websites and do dummy bookings (where you find availability and price but don’t actually finish the booking) so see avios and cash is required for a particular flight, what kind of availability there is, etc. This way you maximise your chances of getting where you really want to go with your avios, when you want to go there.
