Hi everyone,
I am travelling to saudi Arabia for holidays and wanted to ask if anyone with the UK passport had the option of availing the visa on arrival facility and how easy the process was?
Would appreciate any assistance.
Many Thanks
Holiday in Saudi – wow that’ll be a wild time !

I mean, they’re both Islamic and in the same region if that’s what you mean….
Dubai is a lot more liberal than Saudi
I’d say that Dubai is almost nearer to Uk standards than it is to Saudi standards
Can share experience on US passport, VOA was basically a computer station managed by some staff, where you do the process on your own (almost the same as the online request I think).
Biggest issue I had was finding it after waiting in line… so make sure to look for the VOA on the left before going down the stairs to wait in line.
KSA is nothing like Dubai, very different, more like Sharjah on a larger scale. I liked that it has more culture and the people you meet are locals doing normal jobs like everywhere else in world. Dont forget, no alcohol anywhere:/
Spent a few days there in March on the way home from Italy-England in Naples. To get home via Riyadh my friend and I spent less than our other friend spent getting back to London – £20 Naples-Riyadh, £20 Riyadh-Bucharest, £20 Bucharest to Stansted – £60!. Anyway, the subject at hand:
I looked into VoA. I asked quite a few questions on Saudi/Riyadh Reddit pages and while they weren’t full of helpful advice as they were mainly locals who hadn’t experienced it, I gleaned enough to decide it wasn’t worth the few Pounds it would have saved. We breezed though with proper visas which were easy to get. It may have been just as easy with VoA, but I doubt it could be easier.
And FWIW, I liked Riyadh infinitely more than I liked Dubai, despite it being very strange being out until 4am (during Ramadan) drinking tea. It was novel being able to drive at the end of a night out though!
I wouldn’t use VOA if flying BA as they always check your visa at check in and I’m not confident they would let you fly without one . Getting one on line is easy and quick .
Hi everyone thanks for your help and advice, it is much appreciated. I was just about to apply for the online visa and had gotten to the payment stage and noticed that they only take VISA and not MASTERCARD. Now thats great as all my banking cards are mastercard only.
ignore the comment above please, I have managed to get it sorted thanks
