I have MAN-AMS return coming up in Feb. Reward booking in J – I wouldn’t dare risk Y and the security queue that goes outside in a tent. I have an EU passport so arrival into AMS should be unproblematic for me. However useful to hear:
– is baggage delivery massively delayed generally?
– how long is the priority security queue?
– how does one even navigate inside to get to the Sky Priority check in zone?
As a fallback I could fly home Rotterdam to LCY and avoid Schiphol entirely, but I’d rather not pay for a London hotel night and train to Manchester the next day if in fact Schiphol isn’t that bad after all.
I don’t think it’s likely to be an issue unless your specific dates are unusually busy or there’s some other factor like strikes etc at play. I think the issues you describe were earlier in the year.
I arrived and departed from AMS once in early November and twice in early + mid December and there were no issues – I had priority security and was through within minutes every time (no queues) but there were also no or minimal queues at the normal security. Baggage arrived very quickly.
The only minor issue I had was having to queue for about 45 minutes at the BA check-in desk at AMS because they only had one desk open for priority check-in – someone was having major issues at the front and held up the queue for 30 minutes. The economy line would have been quicker!
This was from late Oct 22 so not sure how relevant it would be to you.
Flew into Schipol from BKK, then connecting flight to MAN.
Schipol airport experience was ok, but did have to go thru security again, having already done it at BKK.
They didnt load our luggage at Schipol, obviously only found out when got to Manc – bags were couriered down to home in Devon the next day.
I went through AMS 4 times last year and didn’t have any major issues (other than a single time with an hour and a half delay on bags getting to the belt).
Speaking to friends who went through it last week they had no issues at all on departure or arrival earlier this week.
Things seem to have calmed down a lot with airlines and airports recruiting staff but of course indigents can happen at any time.
The waiting in tents was basically caused by people arriving far too early than they needed to and was used to manage capacity airside.
Ok thank you all, that is reassuring. I’ll stick with MAN-AMS.
