Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Searching availability on Amex 2-4-1 voucher

  • 15 posts

    Hi,

I’ve been using rewardflightfinder to search for Avios availability for a trip in January without much luck.

I went to the BA site and randomly searched for a destination and lo and behold there was availability showing. Turns out I hadn’t considered that the new amex companion vouchers open up additional availability. So, what are you all using to find companion voucher flights with the new availability? Does expert flyer show this? Something else?

    Thanks!

No, you just have to search with the voucher, it’s been discussed at length!

    No worries, thanks!

It seems to be known but despite reading 100’s of articles on here it was never made super clear that the 3rd party reward seat scraper sites don’t include these. It’s kind of obvious when you think about it but I didn’t realise the voucher exclusively opened up significantly better avails on the BA site. Which adds value to the voucher too.

We want to book business class returns to singapore for Jan 2024 which means trying to book using a companion voucher in jan 2023. If we dont have enough Avios is it worth buying more – would need maybe 100,000. Any suggestions as to who to call to ask am finding it very difficult

100,000 avios during this current bonus avios promotion, would cost £1,100. Then you still need to pay taxes and surcharges on the redemption too. Only you could really say if it is worth buying more, as everyone’s situation is different.

ba.com – look for ‘buy Avios’ in the Exec Club section. It’s usually quite obvious because they want your cash!

And then you need to gamble whether you’ll be quick enough to grab the seats on your desired dates, or else end up with Avios you payed for and possibly can’t use for anywhere you actually want to go to.

Top left of the BA home page “Discover” – “Collecting avios”. You click through and sign in to a separate website. TBH I would suggest considering very carefully about buying 100k avios for a single redemption. Even with the 50% bonus this is going to cost you over £1000, so you need to be sure you are going to get value from them. Can you get any sign up bonuses between now and January which would be a better way of accumulating some of them?

You’ve picked one of the most difficult redemptions to go for so it would be helpful to have an alternative or back up destination!
