Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Seat Selection – Using Golden Sparrow

  • Supergers49 268 posts

    Good Morning,

My understanding is that now I am Golden Sparrow (this sounds a little like a rank in the Masonic Lodge to me, but anyway), I am looking to get seat selection on some existing bookings.

I understand that I need to go to Finnish MMB to add my Golden Sparrow # to the booking. Then go to BA MMB to make my seat selection.

I have a few questions wrt Avios bookings using an Amex BAPP 2-4-1:

    (1) Is there a risk that an Avios booking becomes null and void if doing this?

    (2) Can you do this for the return sectors, after you’ve flown the outbound?

    (3) Given the flights do not attract any Tier Points or Avios, is there a need to change back to the BAEC #?

    TIA for your wisdom.

You can just change it before you travel and leave it and it’ll apply for both legs , as you say nothing to earn so no benefit to changing it back

Good question. I see no reason why the booking would be null and void. I think it’s a fair OW benefit and you’re not cheating the system, just using a beneifr you’re entitled to.

Mine doesn’t seem to be working but I’m only the equivalent of Bronze so will report back 7 days before. The RJ number is showing so that bit worked..

So can confirm that I went through the Finnair-MMB process and it allowed me to add it to both, (1) a future Avios 2-4-1, and (2) an Avios 2-4-1 where the outbound has already been flown. Seats promptly selected for both bookings in BA-MMB.

Should I incur any issues checking in for the return sectors for (2), I’ll report back.

There won’t be any issue. You’re a oneworld elite and it’s all part of the published benefits.

There’s no rule on how and when you can become oneworld shappire after a booking has been made or legs flown, as long as it’s not achieve by fraud there’s no issue.

I agree there is no issue doing this. We have flown multiple times using OW status to book seats and changing credit to BA/AA as needed.

I’m like you, BA bronze equivalent, changed on Finnair….but nothing showing on MMB.

MMB will continue to show your BAEC number, not the RJ one. You will only see the effects of the RJ number on MMB, i.e., being able to select seats for free.
