Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Seeking advice on tier points strategy

I’m new to TPs and would be grateful for advice.

My BAEC membership year ends 8 Nov 2024.

With all the changes BA has introduced where does it leave me if –

I take a BAH package 1-5 November 2024 and achieve Bronze of Silver?

    Howling will that status last?

In the following membership year, how many TPs will I need to retain the status, or bump up to the next status?

    TIA

Have a good read off https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/02/06/british-airways-tier-point-collection-year-changes-affect-you for Nov 24.

Looking ahead it’s worth considering what status you’d like to have on 1st May 2026.

@richie thank you for the link.

Apologies, I can’t seem to get my head around the text though for memberships ending Nov 8th.

I would like to be minimum Silver status on May 1st.

One other unknown, under the BAH double TP offer you get the base points straight away, and the double points sometime later, correct? If the trip is Nov 1-5 Nov, the extra double points could arrive after Nov 9th, how does affect things given…

“A Tier Point Adjustment will be made at the start of your shortened collection period (on 9th November 2024), re-crediting any tier points and qualifying flights you earned from 1st April 2024 – 8th November 2024″…translation anyone? : )

    Basically:

Your current year runs from Nov 2023 to Nov 2024

But when things change in April 2025 they will look to your TPs from April 2024 to March 2025.

So basically. Focus on what you earn from April 2024 onwards.

With the BAH example you give. You may not make it to silver if you have less than 600 TP in Nov 8 and the double points post later. But when April 2025 arrives they will look at all your old TP points and sum them again. You may then get the status at that point (which may be ok if you don’t fly from Nov 24 to April 25).

    Thank you @yonasl

I have. South America trip planned for Jan/Feb and the silver status would be handy for it.

Want there a way one could ask BA to locate the double points to the existing year if they arrived within to weeks after the end of your current year end? Or am I imagining that?

The double Tier Points should credit to the date of the actual flights, even if they appear after your year has ended. So no need to ask for the two week grace period, but may need to make sure they add the extra TPs to the 23-24 year to tip you over.

They will then immediately disappear from your 24-25 year but that is irrelevant as they will all still count in your April 24- March 25 year.

Totally baffled by this! I have a tier point end date of 8th November. I won’t renew in the current year collecting only around 60 tier points unless I hit the AmEx spending target. I will thus only keep my silver status until the end of December 24. I’m looking to book a BA holiday in November (but after the 8th) that will net me 320 tier points. They will fall into the shortened tier point collection year. Will the threshold be lower for the period from 8th Nov to 31st March to gain Silver and how many points would I need? Or have I totally misunderstood how this all works. Appreciate any help!

    Thresholds aren’t lowered.
TPs will be carried over for the period 1st April 24 to 8th Nov 24.
600 TPs still required for silver.
