Current AMEX roster:
1) BAPP
2) Basic card (downgrade from gold charge – 4 years back)
3) AMEX MR (cancelled this AM)
Questions:
1) Platinum sign-up bonus will be available to me in 24months (as the requirement is no personal card that earns MR) – this is not affected by holding a BA / Basic card ?
2) BAPP signup bonus will only be available if I cancel BAPP and not take the BA Free card and wait 24months (not affected by other MR or Personal AMEX cards)
3) BONVOY AMEX signup bonus if I read correctly requires me to hold no AMEX product for 24months prior (t&Cs state no personal card – which is pretty restrictive)
4) Holding the Bonvoy card will not affect future singup bonuses for platinum and BAPP?
Am I correct in the above?
Thanks
Q 1) to 3) are correct but you are working on the assumption that 24 months remains the period of purdah. It’s most unlikely to get shorter, but I wouldn’t rely upon it remaining the same in the next two years.
Question 4 is also correct, under current rules. As JDB says, change is definitely possible over that sort of time span.
Thanks both – yes obviously the assumption was the current rules are held – but as of today that is the situation – if things change then so will the approach.
Is there a way to find out when you cancelled your BA amex? I did mine last year but not exactly sure which month I did it. Thanks
1) Does the basic card have no MR points earning capability? Some people confuse it with the free MR points card.

You need to call and ask. Ideally you would have kept the closure letter, absent that you are reliant on Amex getting it right and if they slip up and you apply too early and miss a bonus it’s a “tough luck, sorry” response from Amex.
