Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Silver member benefits when booking cheapest WT fare

Cannot really find a comprehensive answer to this (due to BA changing the rules recently I think). Apologies if this has been answered already.

If booking the cheapest WT fare (no seat selection / no luggage) can I still select a seat and add luggage because of my silver status? (What about a fly companion without status?)

    Thanks!

What’s not clear on the official website?

    – free seat selection on British Airways flights from the time of booking for everyone on your booking* (excluding exit row seats on long haul flights)
    – a checked baggage allowance of two pieces in economy for everyone on your booking (except on hand baggage only (Basic) fares)*

Does that apply to the cheapest (HBO) fares though?

For HBO you will get free seat selection but not free luggage. You can pay for luggage just like any other passenger.

All passengers on the same booking as you get free seat selection

    Thanks, so to sumarize:

    – Cheapest fare does NOT include seat selection but Silver/Gold members will be ABLE to select a seat for free from the moment they book (for the whole group)

    – Luggage is NOT included and silver/gold do NOT get the additional free luggage

So last one: If you do pay to add luggage. Can you use your silver/gold benefit and add a second one for free?

No merely paying for a bag does not let the status benefit kick in.

Baggage needs to be an integral part of the fare from the get go so you need a plus fare for short haul and a standard fare for long haul.

The rules have been clear on this for a couple of years at least.

No Yonasi. Your ability to get extra luggage due to your status is blocked if you take an HBO fare.

If you want 1 luggage pay to add a piece.
If you want 2 luggage then book a non-HBO ticket in the first place.

Mostly would be cheaper to take a higher underlying fare if you have luggage.

Note award bookings include 1 luggage on BA plus any status luggage.

I don’t know if people don’t read these days. What does the second bullet point say?
