Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Spending £10k on a BA Holiday? Earning Avios amounts?

  • 157 posts

A friend of mine has spent 10k on a trip on BAH. He is only a blue member. Does this mean he would earn 60000 Avios with the new earning structure? He’s flying with his wife so would she also get 60000 Avios being on the same PNR?

I think you/your friends may be being a little over optimistic! For the flights, they will each earn Avios on the old basis as the fare is undisclosed. Based on the total amount spent, they will get the credit card points plus 1 bonus Avios per £ in total (ie not per person) for booking a BAH.

Are you saying they spent £20k on a BAH ie £10k each? Even if they spent that amount purely on flights I thought the Avios earning was on the base fare excluding non-airline taxes and fees, such as airport charges and government taxes so it’s not just as simple as taking the amount you spent multiplied by 6, 7, 8 or 9.

Is there a bit of confusion with double TP earning here, as opposed to avios? Though if the £10k was paid using the BAPP, the friend would earn 30k avios for that alone, which is a decent return, and earn the companion voucher in one go.

@AJA – that’s correct avios are now calculated on the base fare + BA surcharges

But BA Hols bookings are still on the old distance basis not the new amount paid basis.

IF the OP is able to tell us the routing and cabins we might be able to give them an indication of how many avios they can expect.

Thanks for everyone’s help. 10K for both Husband and Wife for flights and accommodation, LHR – BGI, so 90 Tier points each way for WT+. So that would get them 360 Tier points each. BA calculator shows 4210 Avios each way so that would be x4 (BAH Double Tier points and Avios) = 16840 Avios each. Are my calculations correct?

Not quite. The avios per person would be 8420. They aren’t doubled like TPs are.

£10k and they’re only in PE?! They need to start reading HFP.
