Booked a o/w award saver flight yesterday but realised within 6 minutes, I was stupidly a day out on the date needed. Grrr.
Tried to cancel via telephone (24hr global reservations all airlines use – 0208 126 0009), straight through to real person but probably should have redialled actual SQ office.
Was told that a 24 hour grace period didn’t exist for SQ (unless) to/fro USA, and that cancellation/recredit fee would be £250.
Logged in via Krisflyer – got instant recredit of 141,000 miles and taxes (£251 only for F ex LHR!) but cost me £59 recredit (U$D75) fee. No cancellation fee levied.
One other point of interest, once my Saver ticket had gone, the only other seat available went up to 225,000 miles. By cancelling the first, inventory was immediately updated so the seat reappeared, and I then rebooked TWO tickets at 141k each. For the correct day.
Moral of story – triple check the dates, accept £59 as getting away with it. Had I have actually connected with SQ office direct, I have no idea if I could have avoided the U$D75 charge. Prob not.
The telephone number above seems to be an outsourced agency for all the major airlines.
I had this the other day when I booked a trip. Believe the miles re-deposit fee is unavoidable. Also miles are not returned if the have expired (you can book flights after they are due to expire).
No flexibility IME – very hard to speak to anyone working for SQ directly these days, they use outsourced call centres with no authority very widely since COVID
I did just change a date of a redemption booking for free though. You need to click on your booking and change. Need to be a seat available presumable at same miles cost. Had booked 21 Nov return and saw seats for 28th. Easy change and free and all done online
0207 660 8988 is SQ actual via local number. No 24 grace period unless US/India flights. No movement on U$D75 recredit fee on award tickets.
As it happens, £59/U$D75 recredit fee, to then get another F ticket at 141k not 225k not a bad outcome but thanks for the date amending tip. Anything able to self-fix so much better!
