Hi – was asked today by some friends:
The other week they were flying from STN with Ryanair. The transit shuttle to gates was down and no-one was helping / resolving. They missed their flights along with loads of others as couldn’t get to gate in time.
They had to spend £1000+ on new flights on a different route.
Ryanair denying any responsibility as not their fault.
Stansted not answering emails
Insurance looks hazy as they were already at the airport and the flight wasn’t delayed.
Anyone had similar experience or can advise where liability for compensation may lie?
What a nightmare, I can imagine there were some very furious passengers. When was this? This kind of incident usually gets a few media reports which sometimes give a clue about who to contact about such issues.
Surely the airport is responsible for the functioning of the shuttles? If your friends had arrived in good time and the shuttle was not working for a significant period, there must be some liability there.
Some insurance policies do cover missed flights as a result of a failure of public transport (which this might be said to be), have they actually inquired about claiming?
Was it this incident? I haven’t read the full report but there’s a picture of Simon Calder who seems to be dishing out advice!
The advice might apply to them even if it wasn’t the same incident!
