Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Status Upgraded to Silver and Unable to book seats

  • 43 posts

I’ve recently attained silver status and have tried to book seats on a number of existing BA bookings. Its saying I have to pay or wait until 7 days prior to the trip to reserve for free.

I’ve just rung them and they have told me that I will be unable to choose seats without paying as I had a bronze status when I booked the flight.

This is incorrect, I had blue status when I booked the flight so the bronze status has clearly been applied. Anyway, they’ve said that silver benefits only apply if you have them when making the booking. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Quite annoying if so!

You’ve hit a lovely double-whammy of BA here, I think!

Silver offers you the choice to book seats (apart from exit row on long hauls) from the point of booking, although https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/tiers-and-benefits/compare-the-tiers is admittedly easy to read incorrectly on this point.

If you’ve recently attained, it is quite common to have to wait a few days for BA IT to catch up.

    How recent is recent?

It takes a couple of days after the TPs have hit your account for a changed status to properly reflect in your account – i.e. when your card in the app changes colour and not before.

It is just a couple of days. Its fine if I have to wait a bit longer, the long haul trip is April sp just wanted to get in there soonish.

My app has changed colour and it says silver when I log into the website.

Its just that I phoned them to confirm this and they told me I would not be able to book them until 7 days prior and there was nothing they could do about that which had concerned me.

Guess I’ll try again in a few days!

Don’t wait. Talk to them on Twitter / X and they’ll amend this to allow you to book them for free.

Log in and delete your baec numbers from the booking
    Log out
Log in to the booking on the Finnair MMB portal and add you BAEC account details in their system. They might let you book the seats there..

    If not

    Log out
Go to BA MMB without logg8ng in and see if you can choose your seat

    If not

    Log into Ba.com
    And try there.

    One of those should work.
    Have a great trip
