Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Stay 2 nights, get 20k points

No sooner did I write “I don’t collect IHG points” on the IHG rewards devaluation article – this offer popped up in my inbox:

“Earn 20,000 Bonus points when you book and stay 2 nights with us”

Seems to be no catch – just stay 2 nights at an IHG hotel.

Unsure if it’s a targeted offer.

    Must be targeted.
I didn’t get the email, but I do stay at IHG properties a few nights a year anyway.

    Huh. I get 3,000 for 2 nights.

    Robbed.

    Nothing for me 😞

Me neither, annoying as I can’t do the 4 nights needed for 8k points offer before the end of August!

Interesting as to how they “target” as I am Diamond, got 700k points or so, and stay in IHG every week, with 22 upcoming stays. But I got the 2 nights, 20k offer – would have thought it’s better used to try and encourage guests who have low status etc to get them booking again etc. On that note, it must be random. Does anyone know if it covers existing bookings ?

Haven’t had this offer either. Nor any other one for a while.

Perhaps it was because I complained about the endless emails about the iberiostars offers lol

@bibby135, I don’t stay as often as you but I am Diamond/Ambassador with over 500k points and over 20 upcoming stays so who knows?!

Can’t really determine from the Ts & Cs whether this applies to rooms already booked, as long as you register before the stay, or whether it is only for bookings made after registration. What is the norm with IHG?

“What is the norm with IHG”

The norm is that whatever you have booked already will be eligible. It’s been that way for years, even back in the day when people would randomly type in promo codes in the hope of a “hit”.

+1 I wish these companies would target their marketing and give customer options.

I can’t stop Hilton sending me promos for high end properties that I would never consider
I can’t stop IHG sending Iberostar offers, when I’m not their target market
I can’t stop Tesco sending me recipies for stuff I’d never consider making together with all their other junk if I want get a single coupon from them. (which I had switched on for a year and still never got a coupon, so they lost a customer).

    Just laziness and poor IT.

With IHG existing bookings always count, other chains may vary.

    Thanks @retron and @davefl

I had a new booking to make, but I also rebooked an existing one to be on the safe side. But useful to know for the future, thanks.
