Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Stopover in Qatar on rewards flights

I’m flying with BA to Doha and have a 24 hour stopover. My onward flight is with Qatar in first class.

The following website lets you book a stopover hotel. https://www.discoverqatar.qa/stopover/

It says you need to hold a Qatar boarding pass but I can’t see where it specifies anything about reward flights not being eligible, nor is it clear which leg should have been booked on Qatar (the flight to Qatar or the onward flight?)

It asks for an e-ticket number. I tried my real
One and it let me proceed to the payment screen. I then tried a made up one with an extra digit and I could also proceed to the payment screen.

As I’ll be there in July the hotels are good value, £100ish can easily get a nice 5* hotel and via this scheme it costs £70 excluding breakfast. Still a saving and you can go with a 4* hotel for less.

Has anyone used this service with reward flights? It seems they don’t verify the ticket number which is weird but they say the hotel needs to see a boarding pass and your hotel confirmation. Obviously I want to avoid a situation where the hotel turns me away on arrival or I get a notification shortly before the trip that the hotel booking is rejected.

Looking online it just says both flights need to be on Qatar or a codeshare. Obviously the onward flight is Qatar. The flight into Doha has a codeshare with Qatar as I can see it for sale on their site. So does this qualify?

This came up in a thread the other day and I don’t think the stopover hotel option applies to award bookings. I vaguely recall that you also may have to book the hotel at the same time as the flight 🤷‍♀️

We used the stopover package on reward flights a couple of times pre covid. The best hotel we stayed in was in the souk. Easy to have a wander around from there.

Thanks. There is the option to book at the fake time as the flights via the Qatar Airways site but the above link is separate. It definitely lets you book the hotel solus but you input your ticket number. As mentioned it let me input a made up number as well as the real one when testing it.

I looked at this in Oct and it was cheaper to book quite a few of the hotels direct.

Embassy Suites (which was lovely) inc breakfast and evening snacks was £62 and I got the Hilton stay credit as well.

Be aware that certainly in Oct, Uber was blocked from the airport but you can happily get Uber back to there in the morning.

Thanks, that’s a good data point.

Rideshares are still blocked from the airport I understand, however it seems that government taxis work on the meter and don’t look to be that expensive (£10 for a 20 minute journey).

I forget what the amount was but the taxi from the airport was more than double the return Uber.

Does anyone know why they stopped rideshares? I’ve never used it at DXB having been told it was a hellish set up, well away from the terminal and stifling hot in the summer. Not sure I’ve found many airports that gets this right yet. Boston was OK, but MCO and MEX left me underwhelmed. LHR fails as drivers can’t get out the holding pen quickly…

No need to use taxis if you choose a hotel close to a metro station. If you are a single male and scared of poor people buy a gold club ticket, 30 riyals per day
