Forums Payment cards American Express Supplementary cardholder – app access

  • 135 posts

If I were to add a Supplementary cardholder to my Platinum Charge Card, do they need to register for their own Amex account using their email address in order to acticate the card and gain app usage etc?

Will they also need to register their own details for the Hotel statuses etc?

Lastly, in the app, do they have visibility of all transactions (i.e. ones made on my card too) or just those made on their card?

I think I read in the app that as the main cardholder I have visibilty of both?

    Cheers!

    Hi Gary

You do need a different email address to register I believe but of course that could be just a new gmail account you set-up and control (other email providers are available).

Again, if this is Player 2 and they are happy for you to do it, you can use the new email address and do all the hotel registrations etc. (you just click through links on the benefits section of the Amex site once logged in and input the relevant hotel scheme membership numbers etc.)

Finally, if signed in as a supplementary card member you only have visibility on your own transactions.

They just see their transactions, you see all of them.

They need to register their own card for the hotel statuses etc, and indeed do their own registrations for Amex cashback offers – you can often get these twice if the supp is targetted too.

When adding email address for supp, it’s worth making sure it’s the same one registered in their hotel accounts. I had used a different email for one of the hotels, and it took a lot of chatting with CS to get them to work with the hotel to fix it (it just appeared as pending for months).
