Guys,
I’ve been monitoring reward flight availabiliy on this route since XMAS as I want to grab a couple of seats for late Jan 2025 from SYD to LHR.
I know business class and even PE seats are snapped up quickly but I havent yet seen ANY seats available after 26 Dec 2024.
I’ve had a SeatSpy alert for PE and B class seats running since early Jan, I *think* it checks at 1am (GMT) and it hasnt yet tripped – OK fair enough but to see NO seat availability when I manually check at 8am ish each day?
Is this route really that sought after in early January that all reward seat classes are taken by 8am on the day they are released or is there some other explanation (such as BA not offering reward sets on these routes in early Jan)??
Just changed my alert to cover all classes of seats and might try manually looking at 12am tonight to see them disappear for myself!
Any comments and/or experience of this welcome.

They’ll be going at midnight for sure, in economy it’s offering a decent saving vs cash at that time of year so still works for many
Early January is massively in demand for most destinations with people going home after Xmas/New Year. Once the schools go back, especially, things start to normalise a bit in terms of award availability, so around January 9th I would guess.
read the how to add return flight to 2-4-1 thread and that will tell you how in demand those flights are!
@northernlass, do you think it is worth the OP trying to fly back to regions? Or does that trick only work with the amex 2-4-1 at a later date when more reward flight opens up.
Thx for the comments guys – that makes a lot of sense!
It’s always worth searching from the regions if you miss the initial release of seats, but @sharper’s date hasn’t arrived yet. It might possibly switch to off-peak tomorrow, as Monday Jan 7th will probably be the start of the school term for most people.
Remember if you book to start and end at a regional airport you should expect to start and end there.
I booked two J seats for 27/12/24 the moment they were released. Checked the following morning and the other 2 were also gone. You need to be online or on phone at midnight!
