Horror! Just found and booked Club seats to Singapore for later in the year.

When I go to select seats I find the cabin is 7 abreast yingyang layout….Nooooooooo

It’s a 787 but please tell me that I have not just squandered Avios on this?

Is there any hope of club suite.

And BA thinks this is worth £8000 or £22000 a year!! Arghh

You can have the avios seats or the club suites.

    Sometimes you can’t have both.

We booked reward flights on a 777 to HND 10 months ago which would have been club suite. It was almost immediately swapped to a 787-8 with the old yingyang seats.

Annoying but, for some perspective, the cash value of the Avios spent wouldn’t even buy us economy seats now! Getting any lie flat seat on such an in demand route (Tokyo or Singapore!) is great, even if it’s not as good as the one we’d hoped for.

As for chances, if it’s a 787-8 then the club suite rollout is ongoing (the third converted aircraft reentered service this weekend, although one of the others is out due to engine issues). If it’s 787-9 then your only hope is an equipment swap.

But honestly, don’t let this ruin anything about the trip for you. You’ve still got a great deal.

If you didn’t use a 241, you may want to cancel and rebook on Malaysia out of Paris. Article tomorrow. Availability wide open, up to 4 business class per flight.

To be positive, you just have to count yourself lottery winning lucky that you are only flying as far as Singapore and not on to Australia or to one of the ultra long haul SAm destinations. Also, while CS might have offered you a better seat, it still comes pre-packaged with second rate service and filthy aircraft, food and wine.

I’m really looking forward to my flight to SYD in a couple of weeks now ;)! This will be the first time we’ve flown all the way there without a stopover since our first trip there in 1978!

We are on a 777 with CS on the way out but on the return the SYD-SIN leg is on a 789 and 10 days later the SIN- LHR leg is on an A380 – old seat.

I’m on the BA15 and BA16 back next week to Sydney, club suite so is better than old club but I was spoiled in 2023 flying to Australia via Qatar Q Suites.

But they were Avios and BC upgrade vouchers so all good!

BA15 for me on a 787 in Oct in PE, last row so no window but no problems with reclining. Back from Singapore 4 weeks later on the 777 in CS, that is until BA changes something. I’m in two minds as to whether to change the outbound if Club availability appears. There’s absolutely no availability on Qatar to anywhere even remotely close to Sydney 3 days either side of our dates.

@strickers – I’m sure it will be fine, particularly if you have no expectations! Club would obviously be a bit nicer but really only like spraying air freshener; the underlying BA problem/pong is still there.

You just have to think of these long BA flights like going to the dentist or having your prostate checked; it will all be over soon.

@JDB I’d rather not spend 24 hours in the dentists chair or with my GP and a glove.

Some people would pay good money for that! But probably not something to delve further in to here

Yes but you get plenty of “tear points”

I completely disagree, BA club suite , comfortable, service and food fine , planes are not dirty. No wine on a plane tastes nice not even the superb vintage grand cru wines they served on Concorde. Gin tonic , whisky dry work well at altitude, so does port with cheese

Ying Yang is just not up to standard nowadays, but neither is say old 2/3/2 seating on Emirates. If you are paying money worth choosing airline with 100% 1/2/1 seating. But as someone said if you are lucky enough to get avios ticket cost less than economy , so think of it as a win and enjoy it. Glass 90% full cf stuck in economy.

Having prostate checked saved my life , which no plane ride in any class on any airline has done that.

@Garethgerry – well, you either aren’t fussy, haven’t travelled with ME/Asian airlines or you appear to have been extremely lucky as dirty aircraft, poor and slow service and terrible food have been our experience and all these BA ‘features’ are very regularly and widely reported. The problem with the CW food isn’t a question of personal taste, it’s that it is consistently and objectively defective. Burnt, frozen, overcooked, not cooked/undercooked, split sauces, dried out etc. are standard. First courses and cheese (ex LHR only) are the least bad. CE food from the same airline is in a different league in terms of presentation, quality of ingredients and taste.

It’s also just not true that no wine tastes nice on an aircraft; it’s simply a matter of choosing the right ones which QR and SQ manage to do. BA certainly produced excellent wines on Concorde which tasted good and to an extent still does in First, but the better ones are running out and being replaced with very poor relations. BA Club World offers bottom shelf wines that taste nasty on the ground and in the air which is a sort of advantage as by not drinking their rubbish wine one arrives in better shape.

@Garethgerry Agree wholeheartedly on getting your prostate checked, had a PSA check at 55, will have it again at 60. Seemed wrong to have to nag my GP.

I must have been lucky. I have travelled on most Asian and Middle East Airlines and European and US airlines. I’ve never had burnt , cold or overcooked food (except overcooked breakfast) on BA. Or ever had dirty planes. Slow service yes , but that’s not unique to BA, most airlines faff about for at least an hour after take off.

Perhaps I’m still a business traveller at heart, even though all my travel is now lesuire. A comfortable seat , space , something to eat , then a good night’s sleep, is what I demand. And a cup of tea on demand if I wake up early.

I know planes will never offer the level of food of a top hotel or restaurant. Once we arrive I’m very fussy about hotels we stay in , food we eat and the service we get. and wine we drink.

On planes the simpler the better, I drink very much in moderation when travelling.

It seems that you suffer from the BA halo effect.
The planes are not cleaned and given your simple requirement above, you’re not looking and also not bothered. Just like BA aren’t bothered. But congratulations for being their perfect target customer

Get it done every year , my PSA went from 3 to 6 to 14 in 18 months. If you wait 5 years it can spread outside prostrate, which is then not curable, just can only slow down spread.

Over 55 entitled to a PSA every year

No need to be rude, I have SIMPLE BUT HIGH standards, certainly would notice dirt , burnt food and would definitely be bothered.

What I can’t understand is why some people ever set foot on a BA plane, if it’s a bad as they say, then even at any price I wouldn’t touch it

@Garethgerry I didn’t know that about PSA every year, I’ll get onto it.

Apologies, I didn’t mean to be rude or offend.

I just meant that some people like BA for whatever reason. And clearly BA have a target customer base.

But ultimately for an airline that’s made the conscious decision to reduce their cleaning regime, it’s a step too far. They certainly not oversights. Imagine if they had the same oversights with maintenance.
