Just called the Amex Platinum number to ask what cover the travel insurance gives me if any in this situation but they’re closed for the day.

Does anyone here know what the answer would be? I’m staying in Central London, if I buy a few things which are in the suitcase will they reimburse me? Trouble is I have no idea when my suitcase will turn up

Buy things you need, keep receipts, claim from BA. Last time I had delayed bags when away from home I had to buy pants/ socks, t-shirts, a jumper and toiletries and they paid up no problem. Was about £150 IIRC.

Our bags have just been delivered from Edinburgh Airport. The driver said they had 65 drop-offs today for bags that didn’t make it from Heathrow last night.

Hope everyone else gets their stuff back equally painlessly.

Buy AppleTags or Tiles or similar. At least you know which airport your bag is likely to be in. Last year our bags turned up 6 days into a 7 day vacation. Needless to say we bought whole new beach gear, a new case, and everything else. BA happily paid around £750 for the 3 of us. Fair I think.

But take at least a day of clothes/underwear and medication for a week on your carry on. That way you can arrive and not be worried if luggage is delayed, and just enjoy the shopping experience. For business, you can easily fit a couple of shirts and a suit in a carry-on.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

It’s definitely much less stressful if you have AirTags when things go astray, plus you usually know whether the bags are on the flight with you or not which saves a lot of hanging around if they aren’t.

I guess what you take in carry-on depends on risk and consequences. We’ve had delayed or mis-connected bags away from home a couple of times in 15 years of regular travel so rarely bother unless connection is tight or other reasons to worry like bad weather or industrial action. Fortunately our the missing bags have usually been at the home end and we’ve always got them back in 2-3 days.

I always just stick a couple pairs of boxers, socks and polos plus gym gear in my carry on the way out. Not so worried on the return have plenty choices at home.

Got “told off” by BA for not having a “reference number” when my bags were lost once. “Sure, I’ll just stand in a long line for ages at the airport because you didn’t load my bags just to get a reference number”. 100% agree – with tags, if you know the bags aren’t on the plane – just go!

@Lhar Just report them online before you leave the airport – https://www.britishairways.com/travel/your-missing-baggage/public/en_gb#/report-missing-baggage

Update from me, still waiting for my bag!

The BA portal wants me to add information about the bag contents. When I load the portal it says:

    Information required
Please scroll down to complete the missing information in the following categories:
    Baggage contents

However every time I add all the details of the contents and then click save, it says “Sorry, we have encountered a problem and cannot save your update.”

I’ve spent about £140 on trainers, t-shirt and a rucksack. Hopefully either BA or Amex will cover me. I’ll be flying to Poland in 2 days so if they don’t deliver the bag by then I hope I’ll be able to amend the delivery to a hotel in Poland? But I’ll only be there for 48hrs, so things could get tricky!
