Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Thanks BA [for extending my wife’s Silver card]

Well they have just renewed my wifes silver membership for another year even though she was 20 points short (without anyone asking), which is pretty decent. Not very often I get to praise BA, but fair play I’ll give them this one, was a nice surprise.

Wow congratulations… now, isn’t that something…. Strange, when they won’t give leeway of even 1 day out, when earning TPs, as reported on here…

Is this because she had 450 TPs before 31 Dec 22?

Yes, if she was at 450 on 31/12 then she gets an official extension under the covid rules.

It’s also possible she thinks she’s been extended (because it’s past 8th May) but actually she’d keep her old status to 30th June anyway.

She was well under 450 at 31/12. Most of the tier points came from a double TP BA holiday that we did in January. Also the email is titled “another year of silver awaits” and her card expiry date is now 30/6/24. So as far as I can see it looks like we have been given a freebie.

My wife was given unearned Bronze status renewal with similar “Another year of Bronze awaits” message for 2023.

We share a TP year to 8 December and I’m nominated on her account and she only travels with me. Also, I was Gold last year from higher than usual travel in 2021 and lower earnings thresholds. I put it down to a combination of the above and figured it’s a pretty low cost benefit for BA to grant.

My OH has been renewed as well on an 8 May TP year despite being slightly short of threshold – most of our TPs have been earned this year and we were miles short of the reduced threshold at end of last year. I had qualified due to some work travel and a TP run to Dublin, we both got our “Some good news about your membership” email this week so it’s legit.

Ours is not to reason why, but she has been Gold for a number of years, most of our TPs are earned on BA and we have a fair pipeline of future bookings so maybe they think its worth keeping her sweet…
