My wife and I attended the Anfre Rieu concert on 8th May at the Ovo Arena.
Nominally the experience was as described a few weeks back on HfP. Once I realised the queue we joined wasn’t heading to the VIP entrance, but an adjacent public entrance, the VIP check-in went smoothly. Not too sure about how good the event security is – having walked through the scanner holding my phone to show our tickets, it of course beeped. I was then asked if I could explain the beep, to which I offered the explanation that holding my phone was a likely cause and we were waved through with no further screening! We were escorted to our seats and had the entrance to the Heros lounge pointed out, but no proper explanation about obtaining refreshments.
The food and drink service was nothing like the review. There is a QR code on the ‘desk’ for an app, but that failed to load properly and when I sought assistance was told not to use it! Apparently there is no way to order items via the app using the included vouchers as ‘payment’. Having obtained a very generous pour of S African rose from the Heros bar, we retuned to our seats. Shortly before the concert started a young lady appeared taking orders, but we had our drinks by then. I said I would like to place a food order for consumption during the interval, assuming she would reappear in time to take the order and deliver it around the time the interval started. The interval came but the server didn’t.
The ALL seats are a few paces from a pizza outlet so we ordered directly one peperoni and one mozzarella and was told it would be a 10 minute wait, so I went to obtain refills at the bar. After 10 minutes I enquired as to progress – to be told that as we hadn’t handed over our vouchers, the order hadn’t been placed! Vouchers handed over, the 10 minute clock actually commenced – and pizzas were ready just in time for the start of the second half.
Shortly after the concert resumed the young lady reappeared at the ALL seats to take orders! I pointed out this was about half an hour too late, to which she replied she had returned to find the ALL seats empty – to be expected as we had departed to find our own refreshments. Apparently, both food and drink orders can be made at the the Heros bar, but this wasn’t explained at the start. I expect a subsequent visit would be less problematic, once one is familiar with the set up.
We were there a week ago and our experience was different! Everybody was very helpful and fry. The VIP entrance is on the right at the back of the arena – don’t use the front VIP entrances. The All Accor lady came to seats around every twenty minutes for orders. However, she only takes vouchers and we went into the lounge to buy more drinks. The lounge has food options you cannot get at any of the stalls, but we went for the Chicken Burger we huch seemed to be a good deal (ordered through her and delivered to the seats).
