Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

    Hi,

This is quite a theoretical post on just ideas on what would need to be done for a lot of us to stay with crediting one world flights to the new BA club. Please post suggestions and ideas, whilst not something which would completely fundamentally change the programme as that’s not going to happen eg going back to BAEC

    Couple of ideas:
    1) Allow us to convert Avios to nTPs like in Finnair program up to a maximum of 50% of the required threshold. So eg 120,000 avios for 10,000 nTPs. This may be either too generous or harsh but you get the idea
    2) Adopt IB’s segment based earning for partners rather than distance based earning multiplied by such small percentages (which are not in line with percentages used by other oneworld airlines that used distance based earning)

If they adopted both of these I could potentially credit flights to BA still but it may be asking too much

Sorry to sound dismissive, but why would any of us continue to give any thought to how to improve an offering designed and announced in such a way as to achieve maximum alienation? The divorce has been filed, I have no intention of clutching at straws.

Would your attention not be better spent looking at OW and other alternative schemes?

Are the Ts & Cs for segment earning on BA or IB adequate enough or does IAG have some assumptions up their sleeves?

    Fair point

I have started to analyse the other schemes, all with pros and cons, I’m honestly not sure at the moment whether I still try and be loyal to oneworld or not

Pretty sure no more segment earning on the new BA Club, but there is some on IB. But it still requires getting 20k EPs which is a lot

For BA scroll down to ‘Qualifying through number of flights’ https://www.britishairways.com/content/executive-club/faqs/introducing-the-british-airways-club

Isn’t it just 40 segments for Iberia plus status?

Ahh apologies, when I referred to segment earning (wrong choice of word!) I meant distance-based segments rather than no of flight segments, apologies. But yes IB & BA will retain no of flight segments for status earning though BA Gold will be unattainable with no of flights

My wife has booked her TP run for 2 weeks time (LHR<->BRU) for Silver. £250 and we’ll definitely get the value back. We’ll use this for short haul cash fares for the next year and use 241/upgrades and Avios for long-haul F/J. Will last us a few years – after that we’ll see how the landscape looks.

Given we are mostly travelling for leisure, it was good while it lasted – maybe too good, hence the knee jerk reaction. (Even my 14yo son made Silver in 2023!). Already booked our first flight on SAS next month – the Avios/TP gained would be mostly worthless. First time we haven’t just looked at BA in forever!

Needs to be 40 segments in Iberia (BA doesn’t count).

Do BA/BACF/BAEF operated flights booked with IB flight numbers count?
