Forums Payment cards American Express The car insurance benefit on Amex Platinum also covers to my wife and kids!

It seems the CDW insurance is much more valuable than I had realized, because it apples to:
    – the main cardholder; and
    – the main cardholder’s family; and
    – the supplementary cardholder; and
    – the supplementary cardholder’s family
As long as one of them is a named driver on the rental agreement.
So my wife or my 22 year old son can use this benefit (being part of the main cardholder’s family) even when I (the main cardholder am not traveling).
There is no requirement for the car insurance to be booked using the Platinum Amex Card (which is a requirement for some benefits under different sections of the insurance policy).

    The policy says:
Section 1.5 covers Car rental benefits (such as CDW), and states: “These benefits apply to drivers named on the rental agreement which YOU are named on, subject to a maximum of 5 drivers
    In Section 3:
YOU / YOUR” means “THE INSURED
INSURED” means “(i) Cardmembers and their families, (ii) Supplementary Cardmembers and their families, and (iii) grandchildren of the Cardmember or a Supplementary Cardmember who are under the age of 25 and travelling with anyone insured under the Card Account.”
Family” means “Your partner or spouse, living at the same address as You and Your Children
Children” means “Your Children (including step-children, fostered or adopted children under the age of 25 on the first day of the trip, who are legally dependent on You, and are mot in full time employment.”

Has anyone tested this out in practice? I understand that insurers have to abide by their published policy wording, which in this case is pretty clear.

I’d be interested to hear any experiences of claims under the AMEX policy too as it seems really good but I’ve fortunately, never had to claim.
