@ColinMackinnon, yes original flights were Edinburgh to LHr today and LHR to Male at 6pm tonight. I have chosen to go GLA – LHR tonight and LHR to MLE tomorrow. Why Edinburgh airport tomorrow and not Glasgow?
An utterly irrelevant story but I like to tell it.
About 13 years ago we were booked LHR-FRA-DXB (Lufty F) – MLE (Emirates F). After a snow fall, Heathrow was cancelling short haul flights and so our Lufty connection was cancelled. Lufthansa, bless ’em, persuaded Emirates to book us into Emirates First Class all the way through, so we ended up getting LHR – DXB – MLE, all in Emirates First.
The only funny bit was that we were in the old T2. Lufty gave us generous refreshment vouchers on top (we had a six hour wait for the EK flight) but they were only valid in T2, and of course we weren’t going airside in T2 as Emirates were in T3. The ONLY place we could spend the vouchers was the Wetherspoons in T2, so we ended up sitting in there at 9am and, after buying a quick drink for ourselves, paid the bill for the people in the queue with us.
@ColinMackinnon. Why Edinburgh airport tomorrow and not Glasgow?
More flights to London – more RBS bankers in the “world HQ” two tram stops from the airport!!
Since they will be on fully-flex fares, may be some seats open up as meetings get cancelled?
And with more flights, greater chance at least some will operate.
But don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get something. And if you are actually at a desk at the airport, it is human nature to try and help you.
@ColinMackinnon, that makes perfect sense….
Sitting in BA lounge in GLA, hunting for a hotel room near Heathrow….think they are all busy 😂But don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get something. And if you are actually at a desk at the airport, it is human nature to try and help you.
Except BA has taken a lot of functions away from check in staff – and especially out sourced staff – to be able to rebook flights themslves
Someone reported on the BA flyer talk thread that staff at LHR are having to phone India to get some bookings redone and it’s taking ages. All very well and good but they said the agent in India had no idea where Rome and Italy were and also wanted to charge change fees and fare differences!
GLA flight cancelled….. I just booked myself on EasyJet to stansted….with a very expensive hotel room booked at Heathrow tonight…..wonder how much a taxi will cost?
MAN has had severe delays and cancellations this weekend – I wouldn’t risk it tbh. The northern airports are clearly worse affected than LHR just now. I would find another departure locally (do you still have Emirates going from EDI?) or just wait until tomorrow.
BA certainly lie – there are countless examples of it on threads here, for starters. A few years ago we had out MAN-LHR cancelled on the day and ground staff started off by insisting the only alternative was for us to come back in 2 days for the next LHR-GCM departure! After much standing of our ground and asking to be re-routed on via the USA they suddenly found they could pay £300 for a taxi to get us to LHR in time for the original GCM departure …
Sadly IME no scope for flexibility at MAN. No BA staff at MAN all Menzies agency who give a blanket statement that if need to arrange changes and all else direct with BA by phone ☹️.
Tracy, thought the original ticket was to MLE tonight. If so, BA then have to look after you until the rebooked flight.
If you live next to the airport, not much duty of care. Easy to go home.
But if you had flown down from Stornoway (even on a separate ticket), or driven from Skye etc, then they owe you a hotel and meals by cancelling once you’d left the house.
Me, if the Glasgow flight is cancelled, I’d get to Edinburgh airport about 9:30 tomorrow and see what they can book me on. (They won’t know until then what is going to be running and what isn’t!)
Have a night in Edinburgh – meals will be cheaper than MLE! – and just get that holiday started.
(and remember, if you have an Amex plat then there is a £150 travel inconvenience claim allowed).
Just excitedly went to look for details of the travel inconvenience claim. Seems like it’s £300 now but only if you paid for the ticket on the platinum. I paid for mine on my BA Amex. Assume my interpretation that that isn’t eligible is correct? Learning point for next time 🤦♂️.
I thought everything was valid as long as you paid with any Amex.

Do the expenses have to have been paid by Amex? I’ve paid by Curve/Barclaycard Avios due to better exchange rates.m (although they’re not that great at the weekend). I did pay for our Eurostar back on Amex (but I’m hoping, probably futilely, that BA will refund me for those).

Yes, payment on Amex is expressed as a condition in the Travel Inconvenience section but read the terms carefully – it has very limited application.
What’s the latest, did you get to STN @Tracy?
Just wondering that. Over on FT they are reporting large numbers of (mainly SH atm) cancellations from LHR today 😣
MLE still showing as on time though!Fingers crossed, BA61 still showing as scheduled on LHR departures site:

EasyJet flight last night was cancelled. Stuck in traffic now heading to Edi airport for a flight to LCY at 12.50. It’s not cancelled YET. Even if it does fly on time I’ll need to collect bags & taxi to LHR….don’t think I’m flying today….
BA refuse to look at other carriers until flights are cancelled by which time it’s too late to book anything else 🙁I’d do the Elizabeth line if you can manage it with your bags, do a taxi/Uber to Custom House and it’d be direct to T5 from there. Last I heard on the radio the M25 is still struggling
How long is your trip @Tracy? If it’s a couple of weeks it’s still worth trying to get there, but if you’re only going for, say, a week, and can move your leave it might be better to try and move it to the new year if you don’t get there today. By the time you’ve done the flight and transfer you’d have very little holiday left.
I’d do Lizzie as well.
It’s all step free so quite easy with even a couple of cases.
Plus it’ll be quicker than a taxi and you won’t have to listen to Driver FM.
If there isn’t a T5 train scheduled then take the first to arrive and change in the central section as it’ll be warmer – Custom House is an above ground station.

If you have the Uber app set up with your BAEC details, at least you can get some small Avios from the trip from LCY to LHR.
Silver linings 🙂
Thanks guys will take the Elizabeth line if I get there. @Northernlass, 7 night Maldives, 2 nights Dubai. It’s our 25th anniversary on 15th….we did think about cancelling if we don’t travel today 🙁
I hope you make it today but of course if it does end up being cancelled again, you may be able to move it to better dates on rebooking because you’re not dependent on what you can get at T-355 – just a thought!
@Skywalker, I don’t have Uber linked to BAEC, I know I’m not much of an HFP’er if I’m not milking every avenue lol

This is your aircraft. Looks like it’s coming up from LCY at 11am on BA8704 which is showing on time so I think you’ll be OK, flights are landing at LCY today
