My wife and I are flying LHR to MIA in May.
We currently have seats 56 F & J booked. I’m aware these have no stepping over or being stepped over and are fairly adjacent for talking to each other.
I’ve saw though that some complain about the proximity of the toilets with people queuing.
I could change to 50B/51D or 50J/51F which also benefit from no stepping.
I’ve heard though that you can get a bit of a draft up from first, sometimes people bang into you and it also looks that 51 is a bit further behind for speaking to each other.
I would appreciate any thoughts on whether it would be worth while moving forward from 56 and away from the toilets? Or is it much of a muchness?
Thoughts appreciated.
You do get a bit of a queue for the toilets at times, so could get a bit annoying at the very front. A lot of people like the 53 or 59 a/k seats as theyre step free aisle access. I don’t like them personally as 53 you are close to the galley and 59 you are practically next to the front row of PE, so both can be noisy.
I usually go for an a/b or j/k pair in the middle of the cabin, but I’m happy to step over the person in the b seat.
Alternatively choose a middle pair facing backwards on the lower deck?
Thanks for the reply.
My wife has mobility issues which make the step over of the two seats together on the lower deck a bit of an issue.
A and K would be an option but she needs me at hand to help her in and out of her seat.
I do have a feeling the options I outlined above are probably fairly similar, I just wondered if anyone had any particular knowledge of them.
Cheers.
P.S. to Admin…I hit “report” to Biki’s reply thinking it was a reply button. Obviously not reporting the post! Sorry for any bother.
No Problem! If your wife has mobility issues will she be OK going up/down the stairs on the A380? It doesn’t always use a seperate airbridge for the top deck, depending on which airport you go from/to, so potentially you’d have to walk up/down them and they’re quite steep from memory.
In which case, maybe the middle pair at the very back of club on the lower deck might work (although they might be blocked for bassinet use), as you’re sat next to each other and don’t need to step over anyone. As long as you’re happy facing backwards of course! otherwise the seats you mentioned might be best.
MY wife and I flew eleven hour overnight CW flights on A380 in Feb last year.
LHR-JNB in upper deck seats 51A & 51B
JNB-LHR on lower deck seats 10A & 10B
No issues with noise or drafts or queuing pax and we both received our first choice of meal option. But neither of us have any mobility issues, I hasten to add, and each of us was happy to entertain ourselves rather than converse as most of the flight occurs during normal sleeping hours.
I deliberately chose different decks to assess and compare. No problems boarding or disembarking at either destination.
Forward toilets on upper deck are indeed as impressive as reported. But personally, I found the cabin overheated on the flight out from Heathrow and the lower ceiling, smaller cabin, no individual air nozzles hindered my sleep. Admittedly I do have high metabolism and hot epidermis, great for my wife on cold nights but not so great if you’re used to lower ambient temperature and wearing much less to bed than modesty permits on an aircraft.
The flight back was much better for me, the lower deck cabin is larger with more air circulation – but of course because we departed a hot country in Feb it is likely that the cabin temperature was set lower to start with than the cabin temp on the outbound flight from a chilly Heathrow.
