Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Three tier point questions (sorry!)

  • 11 posts

    Hi,

For the first time I find myself having just hit Bronze and being close to getting Silver this year which is making me think of booking a tier point run. Before I do that I was hoping to get some wisdom from those more experienced in these matters than me. So I have three questions:

    1. My current status shows that I have 340 tier points and still need to hit 600 to get Silver. I think this is as I have only done 2 flights on BA metal this year. If I do a return flight with BA for tier points and pass 450 will that get me Silver?

    2. I recently flew LHR to GOI (Goa) with Qatar. My outbound legs were in Economy and netted me 70 (LHR – DOH) and 40 (DOH – GOI) tier points. My return was in business and netted me 140 TPs for DOH – LHR, but still only 40 for GOI to DOH. Is this correct and is there somewhere I can easily see what TPs are earned for flights on Qatar?

    3. I think my easiest option to hit silver is a long Club Europe return to, eg SOF. I’d prefer to do a single return trip, spending no more than a night away. Am I missing any obvious options that I should check?

Apologies if all these questions have been covered elsewhere, my searching didn’t get any clear answer for item 2 above.

    Thanks for the help!

    To answer your questions

    1. If you get another 110 TPS and 2 eligible flights before end of December than you would qualify for Silver based on the reduced target this year

    2. The BA tier points calculator will show you how many tier points are due on any BA or other oneworld carrier flight – just google BA tier points calculator

    3. Yes a return to eg Sofia in CE would get you 160 TPS. Or any other short haul + destination – just a question of seeing what works for you in terms of dates, prices etc. You can reduce the cash cost by part paying with Avios without impacting the TPS gained

    1. As long as you do another 2 qualifying flights either on BA or BA marketed or marketed and operated by IB before 31 Dec 2022 and earn another 110TP you will be Silver

    2. https://www.britishairways.com/travel/flight-calculator/public/en_gb is your solution. I just checked and 40TP for GOI to DOH is correct for Business. You should only have got 20TP for Flexible Economy so you gained an extra 20TP – keep quiet

    3. I think the LHR to SOF or any of the 80TP routes in Club is what you need. Technically Club out and Flexible Economy home would do it but I think it might be cheaper in a R or I club return. Alternatively if you can stretch to 5 nights you could do a shorter haul Club Europe route and go for the double TP option

The above assumes that your TP year end is after 8 January 2022

Thanks both – that’s exactly what I needed to know!

@nectar collector – you even answered a question that I thought of after posting – ie can I reduce the cash cost of a flight and still get the tier points!

    Cheers!
