Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Tier points and resetting of collection year

  • 6 posts

    Hi –

I’m currently Bronze and am 40 tier points away from Silver, with my collection year ending on 8th Sep 2024 (have completed the other requisite four flights).

Question is this – if I collect at least 40 tier points before Sep, how long will I be at Silver? Only until Sep, or when it next resets (mindful of the collection year realignment)?

Trying to decide if it’s worth getting some more flights in between now and Sep, or to “let it go” (yes, I have Disney-obsessed daughters!)

Ordinarily it would last until 31 October 2025 but with the adjustment to align everyone to the same year end date I think it would last until 30 April 2025 unless you earned all of those 600TP since 1 April 2024 in which case it will be 30 April 2026 as they will re-credit any TP earned between 1 April and 8 September 2024 again at the beginning of your TP year after 9 Sep 2024

If your current collection year ends 8th Sept 2024, then if you achieve Silver you will have this status until 31st Oct 2025.
If you have achieved your points since April 2024, then you would have Silver until April 2026 due to the changes to collection years.

Great news, thanks everyone for the info.

My follow-up question – what’s the most cost efficient way of achieving this? I can see estimated Avios when making a booking, but I don’t recall ever seeing tier points – is there a chart anywhere to explain this please?

40 TPs is easy – you need 1 CE flight to somewhere like Paris or one of the UK airports. The BA Low Fare Finder page will show you the cheapest routes, your best bet might be a UK domestic at an unpopular time. 2 x economy probably wouldn’t work as you only get 5 or 10 TPs with most fares.

For 40 tier points, your best bet will be club Europe one way and cheapest economy ticket back which will get 45 points. Or you could even get a train to e.g. Newcastle and get a club Europe flight back for 40 points ( or other way round). That would be approx £165 which is worth doing if you have a spare day.

If you have Disney obsessed daughters then you may benefit from free seat selection at time of booking!

Cheapest option for 40TP is typically LHR – MAN in CE and train return, or vice versa.

Or cash CE flight one-way and avios return. I did MAN-LHR return to complete the 4 eligible sectors on the cheapest departures for Silver, one ended up getting cancelled so I was able to move both to a much more convenient (and expensive!) date.

MAN CE flights can be very expensive though, so choose your flight time accordingly!

Thanks for all the advice and info here.

Have booked an economy MAN – LHR and CE LHR – MAN a few hours later (will relax in the T5 B gate lounge while waiting – I do like that one!)

It was sufficiently cheap that I’m bringing one of my daughters along for the ride, which will be her first ever flight.
I don’t suppose they do, but do BA do anything special for first-time flyers, especially kids (she will have just turned 9 that week)?

I doubt it very much on that route as it’s generally a zoo these days, but as you say, you will have lounge access at LHR which she might think is quite cool for free snacks and drinks.

If you’re not already aware, the nicest place to hang out at MAN if you haven’t got lounge access is the space where the old BA lounge was – there’s usually plenty of seating and great runway views.

Where is that at MAN? Last time I went from there, I sat upstairs in what I can only describe as a rotund – there was a big hole in the centre overlooking the meatmarket (aka the eatery area) – was much quieter and some nice runway views.

That’s the place. It used to be the BA Terraces lounge, it was very pleasant while it lasted!

Ha! Can’t imagine that being a lounge to be honest – thanks for the info.

It was – google pics of BA lounge at MAN, it was in use until the pandemic.

    In fact:
