Hi All,
Booked a return business flight to the US for two of us. However, the charges for seat selection are a joke. Nearly 500 GBP! We are both only 20 tier points from Silver. So my question is;
1. If I get silver now (after booking) can I select a seat for free. Or do you need to be silver at the time of booking.
2. What’s the cheapest and easiest way to to get 20 points?
Thanks
Look Basel, Luxembourg, Stuttgart return.

1) Yes, the online portal will give you the benefits you have at the time. So you can log into your booking once your status changes and make a change. the reverse is also true should your status drop.
2) Depends, where are you based?
You can book now. When you become silver you will be able to select a seat for free
To know how to get those 20 TPs you need to tell us where you are and what your dates would be. A flexible economy ticket may be enough or business/economy return ticket to somewhere like EDI/MAN could work.

Day trip to Jersey. Economy Plus, Monday 17th July, £128.
Day trip to the Edinburgh Fringe. Economy Plus, Thursday 17th August, £112
Thanks for the replies. Based in the UK, Cambridge so Heathrow, Gatwick and city. Trip is in January but would like to book seats soon as we don’t want to end up in the dreaded middle seat. The aircraft has the old BA business.

Do you mean doing both of those trips? I just checked out the second one but the £112 for Economy Plus seems to be ‘O’ booking class which is the lowest economy class and will only earn 5 TPs per sector (as would ‘Q’ and ‘G’). To get 10 TPs per sector it needs to be I think ‘N’ or above.
Unless you want to be able to change the flight times on the day, e.g. come back earlier (which may be useful if it is just a TP run) then there doesn’t seem to be any point in paying the Plus fare, when Basic will get you the same TPs for less money.
If coming from Cambridge I might be inclined to book a Ryanair flight from Stansted to Dublin and then come back Club Europe to London City which would earn 40 TP,
For example on 19 July it is around £18 for the Ryanair flight, the cheapest BA flight to from Dublin to London City is 125 Euros (approx £108). Whilst a very poor use of avios it would be possible to use 18,450 avios part payment to reduce the cash amount to less than £25.
