From 25/3/25 instead of 140 TPs in Club you’ll get 80

From post 2 in the FT Thread

We wanted to get in touch to let you know that we’ve taken the decision to move Tel Aviv to our short-haul network when we resume flying to the region. This is in line with other similar-length flights we operate. If you’re due to fly with us on this route we will be in contact to let you know how this change may affect you.

This is not good news. But not really surprising after they did this with Cairo. They’re competing with EasyJet and Wizz instead of being a premium airline.

I’d hate to be based in TLV and a regular traveler to the USA as who wants to connect in LHR now with the first 5 hours being on a shorthaul plane, even in CE.

Shame as I had snagged seats in First using a 2-4-1 back in 2020 which never happened because of Covid.

Never got around to rebooking it

Well well well! The shortest long haul route is to be no more! That’ll go down well very well in Israel I am sure 🙂

Does this move from being the shortest long haul route to the longest short haul?

Are they moving those LH planes to service Sofia in March maybe?

    Hahahahaha!

Will be interesting to see how this affects demand for VS, could be quite lucrative for them!

They used short haul planes anyway

I don’t understand why brands devalue their image like this.

If IAG wants to operate a low cost UK based carrier, then should set one up. Again.

Surely there is a market for a full service short/mid haul airline, that provides a reasonable level of comfort? If not, then drop the BA branding for short/mid haul altogether.

Of course, the joke here being all the people that will be going to SOF in March when the TP-earning calendar is amended.

@Alex G – how does this affect BA’s brand? It’s a straightforward commercial decision. The long haul aircraft can be better utilised elsewhere. Does one really need a bed for a flight of this duration?

Ultimately it’s in the best interests of all passengers that BA is commercially successful so that it can reinvest in aircraft, new cabins, lounges, more staff etc. Why should they operate TLV as some ‘vanity’ route? Competing also doesn’t mean mirroring your competition.

This is an extraordinary special treatment by BA for a certain country/destination! I can’t recall ever seeing over a years’ notice for a TP adjustment from longhaul to short haul.

    I wonder why?

I can’t see load levels requiring more than an A320 once the suspended bookings have been used up – outside military service and VFR I think tourism is over for the foreseeable unless something drastic changes.

Sensible choice and unexpectedly exceptionally generous by BA.

How about they are following Isreali Law?

From the FT link I posted

We also take this opportunity to provide you with notice in accordance with the Israeli Consumer Protection Law, 5571-1981 to a change of British Airways Executive Club Tier Points available on the Tel Aviv route, which will take effect for all flights taken on or after 30 March 2025.

Supposing Israeli law does require 12 months notice for airline loyalty status points accrual changes (??) it’s nonetheless extraordinary – I can’t recall ever seeing over a years’ notice for a TP adjustment from longhaul to short haul.
