Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Torquay Hampton by Hilton – any experience?

Considering booking a Sat + Sun night break here – appreciate any feedback/experiences if anyone has stayed here ?

Also anywhere thats decent to eat or have a few liveners, maybe even the Casino if its any good.

Actually only live about 25 ish miles from here, but never really spent a lot of time in the English Riviera 🙂

The rooms with “a view” appear to overlook the marina, so that would be quite pleasant.

Probably will pay cash ( and get the 50 amex credit ) as the points dont look great value here..

    Thanks in Advance

< edit > the room rate increases when you add a second person, best to just swallow this ?

I can’t help with the query but can’t resist asking if the view is of herds of wildebeest or the Sydney Opera House 😂

Apparently there is a fella of that name S O H, working on reception 😉

I haven’t stayed but it’s a UK Hampton, I’m sure they are almost all exactly the same.

All Hilton members get 2nd guest stays free so book for one. A corporate shill may argue that the rate “includes breakfast” so it doesn’t apply, but it hasn’t been an issue

    Thanks John, good tip.

I booked a couple of rooms there last October. Points (cash + points) turned out dearer than expected after a sudden tariff increase: see https://www.headforpoints.com/forums/topic/ways-round-dynamic-pricing/

Parking: double yellow lines all round, even at the main entrance, with quite fast traffic passing. The municipal multi-storey down at sea front level was reasonably priced for one night. Use the lift down to street level at the back of the hotel. I didn’t bother bringing the car back round to the front for our departure.

The hotel is high up, which makes it quiet, even on Saturday night. The reception/bar/dining area is spacious, and it’s nice to sit at breakfast roughly at town rooftop level. Hampton breakfast was substantial, split into two dispensing areas. Make sure you find them both!

Not having booked, it was hard to find somewhere to eat on Saturday night. We had planned to eat at Prezzo, but it was rammed. Other places were closing at around 8. We found a chip shop, very fresh fish/crab, but all a bit pricey, in my opinion. Like you, I wanted to ‘do’ the English Riviera, and the Hampton was ideal to fulfil that modest ambition.

I wonder if the room is airy?!

    Stayed last week.

Better stay this time. No real issues with the room apart from a long hair on the pillow!

Breakfast reasonable – had far worse.

If arriving late you might get street parking on the road – just be aware of the start time in the morning.

Rooms are fine – don’t expect upgrades.

Book as one person to reduce the price as Hampton charge for a second person.

They are building a premier inn opposite – this has been delayed as the builder went bust. Once open the hotel will have parking there. But currently no parking available. Watch for wardens by the main entrance as I have seen tickets given as vehicles have to park on the pavement due to the road being restricted in width.

Good info Ian – Thank you.

Enjoyed our stay here – hotel is only 2 years old, and everything still looks fresh.
Had a Queen room on 3rd floor which had a decent view of the marina – only negative on the room was the noisy aircon, luckily didnt need to put it on overnight, but in the summer, given you cant open windows, could be an issue.
Breakfast was better than we have had at other Hamptons, they also have an omelette maker, which you can also cook eggs in, so you can avoid the yuk powdered egg.
Definitely the best asset though are the staff – everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful, and seemed to take pride in keeping the place tidy.
We parked at the Meadfoot Rd car park, nice and tucked away and about 10 minute walk to hotel – £9.80 for 24 hrs, so we had to top it up on 2nd day.
Ate at the Saltwater fish n chip restaurant first night – really nice meal, then sat outside a bar overlooking the Marina, very pleasant as the sun came out late afternoon, 2nd night another good meal at Pierre, upstairs bistro so great views over the bay – very reasonable as well.
Would definitely return to the Hilton, although we are relocating to Northern-Monkey land from Devon ( yes, really…) so might not be back for a while..

Agree with all the above, after a good 4 night stay.

Car Parking is in local car parks, but there were a few in easy walking distance and even on Easter Weekend had capacity.

I’d recommend booking for dinner – restaurants seemed busy and relatively early to close.

Bus network is ace for getting around so would also suggest leaving your car behind if you’re planning to explore locally – with the current £1.50 cap. Also good service from the train station.
