I really feel that I should be able to work this out for myself, but am still confused after reading everything.
My current situation according to The BA app:
Current Status: Gold
Current Tier points: 1405
Needed to retain Gold: 95
Collection year ends: 31 March 2025
Card expiry: 31 March 2026
I only went from Silver to Gold in Feb 2025.
There’s no way that I will earn Silver never mind Gold in 2025/26 under the new rules.
If I understand it correctly, I will retain Gold until 31 March 2026 whatever (based on the card expiry date), and it makes no difference if I earn those 95 points in March or not. Or am I missing something important?
Thanks for any thoughts on this.
One of the timing quirks of the TP year changeover. If you retain Gold in the April 2024 – March 2025 period that would be valid until 30/04/26, so an extra month but probably not worth spending extra time, money and effort just for that.
Thank you, that’s what I’d hoped was the case. We’ll just have to see if the “soft landings” continue :).
Almost all my BA “status” has been earned through business travel for a SME, and as I live in Scotland, my incentive to fly BA under the new rules becomes almost zero. Much better off in future with direct flights where available or via Amsterdam / Paris / Frankfurt / Doha / Istanbul etc. Might continue with Amex to get enough Avios for London flights.
I’m sure they will have modeled it all to death, but I suspect there is quite a lot of domestic connecting traffic that will disappear after March 2027.
