Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Travel insurance issue

I have a family annual tripsure platinum travel policy.

I had booked flight to London in July via avios and a Wimbledon package with Newmarket holidays , which consisted of Wimbledon tickets and hotel for 2 nights. I hadn’t booked a return flight as was planning to stay outside London with family for a few days and come home at end of week.

Unfortunately I was unable to travel due to illness and had to cancel just 24 hrs before travel. I obviously was not able to get any of the package refunded, but did get my flights cancelled and airmiles back.

Tripsure/ IMG are really difficult and saying that they don’t cover event tickets. I have tried to explain this was a holiday package via a travel agent. I’ve also read the policy several times and see no reference to this. Obviously if I had of thought I would have needed extra insurance for this trip I would have purchased same. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Frustratingly I also have platinum Amex but had to book via visa/ Mastercard so couldn’t purchase with same.

Read you policy t&c’s. And then if you think you’re covered and insurance company still says no, contact the FOS.

Likewise if not clear then the FOS might be worth a try.

You ought to be able to claim on the Amex Plat insurance if you can provide evidence that the travel agent didn’t accept Amex. That policy does cover leisure activities booked. In respect of TripSure I wouldn’t expect it to say it doesn’t cover things such as events – I haven’t read the policy but it’s more usual to say what is covered and basically then nothing else is covered. There is quite a big variation between travel policies as to what they do and don’t cover. Amex isn’t very good on Travel Inconvenience but more comprehensive as to what is covered under cancellation.

Thanks so much… I think I will cancel my claim with tripwire and submit a claim with Amex… that is useful to know re cover if company don’t accept amex

Don’t you fall down at the very first hurdle with both Tripsure?

Tripsure requires a minimum of 3 nights paid hotel accommodation for domestic trips.

Also with Platinum insurance not everything requires you to have paid with Amex – most of the big stuff is covered however you pay. As always, read the policy.
