Forums Other Destination advice Travelling to Saudi Arabia from Manama, Bahrain

On the off chance that anyone is contemplating travelling over the King Fahd causeway – don’t try it after midday on Thursday or anytime on a Friday!
There were hundreds of cars queuing to get through:
    1) Bahrain exit booths
    2) Saudi immigration booths
    3) Saudi customs

Even without our major cockup it would have taken the best part of 2 hours to get through.

As it was, although we already had our e-visas, we and the driver didn’t know that there was a special building on the right hand side of the multiple queues of cars where biometrics were done before one’s first entry onto KSA – not to be mistaken for a different building on the left hand side of the queues for visas on arrival!

So having eventually reached the Saudi immigration booth we were sent to the biometrics office which involved crossing the multiple queues, joining a queue to exit Saudi, re-entering Bahrain, exiting Bahrain, getting fingerprints and photos taken…and then rejoining the multiple queues for Saudi immigration.

We finally got to our hotel after 3.5 hours and we were more than ready for a cold beer. Oh! hang on a minute….😔

Good to know! We won’t bother attempting it.
We visited the Grand Mosque as you suggested which was enjoyable and worth a visit. We also went to the National Museum of Bahrain which was very interesting. Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.

When ETIAS comes in I suspect eurotunnel will be just as bad on Friday and Saturday

And the cost of the e-visa is huge; over £100 each.
