bit off topic but was just wondering
I have booked a redemption flight to SIN next feb in J and then booked directly back to lon with Singapore airlines with my wife and 2 kids ages 11 and just under two.
for the flight home I booked the infant on lap option and phoned up to buy an extra seat as its pretty reasonable prices back on Singapore airlines at the moment, however I was told that is not possible we would all have to cancel and book full priced tickets plus an extra ticket and 4 times what we paid so that the infant could have a seat, is that right? They’ve booked us on the bassinet row however even though my daughter is tiny, in a years time I imagine that isnt going to be something suitable or is the extra space still good on Singapore airlines?
Not normally one for travelling with infants but post covid life has changed and I need my asian fix! Looking for any experience of flying sinagpore with infants really
We flew back with my son twice from Singapore few months ago (when he was 1y and 8 months and 1y and 11m), both times on our lap. The first time was with Finnair in the new Business seats and second direct to London with BA on the old club world seats. As the flights departed at night, we had no problem sharing the seat with him (well, my wife didn’t have a problem with it tbh), even in Club world. I would not pay for an additional seat when they are too young. Singapore Airlines seat in my opinion is n out very comfortable (at least the long haul seat in the a350); although I only flew with them once from SIN to MAN. The main problem for me was that you can’t put the seat in bed mode on your own, you need to seek assistance from the cabin crew. However the seat is quite wide (wider than BA for sure), so that may be an advantage for you and your daughter.
I just did SIN on SQ with a one year old (16mo). I don’t think the extra seat in J will add much value. If they’re sleeping then the bassinet or on your seat will be fine. If they’re awake then they won’t be sitting in their own seat by themselves so you’ll be in their seat with them (if only to prevent them escaping) so might as well be in your own seat. It’s not like old BA club world where you can book a centre block and put the kids in the middle.
Sorry I forgot to add a detail – only J on the way out, economy on the way back is where I wanted the extra seat
Are the bassinets big enough for a 16 month old? that’d be perfect if they are but thought they would be more for smaller babies?
The bassinets are a good size, but they have a zip on the top that needs to be fastened whilst the child is inside. This was a problem for mine who likes to sleep in a somewhat prostrate position so struggled to fit (we just stuck a blanket on top and the flight attendants didn’t ask to check underneath. Annoyingly the bassinets are mounted right underneath the touchscreen TVs so 1) it’s a bit distracting for them if you watch anything and 2) your child might find it fun to play with the TV rather than sleep.
