I have asked this question in the main forum but didn’t get a reply so thought I would try here.
I have 45k avios and we want to go to Bali next year from 3rd to 18th May has anyone got any ideas on the best way to use them, the trip would be return from Manchester. I can’t afford the business class fares on sale at the minute but wondered if I could maybe upgrade one segment and if so the best way to do it. Thanks
Via BA, we’ve booked MAN-DOH-KUL on QR and then KUL-DPS on MH in the past. With three people, there were only economy seats available to/from KUL, but were able to book business between KUL-DPS (I think it was about 20,000 Avios plus £25 per person).
Sri Lankan airlines will fly you in business from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to Jakarta (CGK) for £800 return most days. That will earn you 560 tier points, almost enough for BA silver!
You could look at doing a Qatar redemption from Manchester to Abu Dhabi in economy, then the Sri Lankan fare, then a cheap LCC onwards to Bali from Jakarta.
When we went to Bali we flew via Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific fly HKG-DPS but unsure on points cost. Or you could get creative nd try and fly back one way from HKG as this always used to have no “taxes”.
Enjoy though, I can’t wait to go back to Bali.
