Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Two bookings on the same flight

  • 5 posts

    Afternoon all,
Looking to add another avios ticket to an existing booking but there are no redemption seats available.

I have a new 2-4-1 though and there are 8+ available using that.

However, I’m already on the original booking using an old style 2-4-1.

Is it possible for me to make a second booking on the same flight? I.e there will be two seats and bookings in my name?

I’m not gold so can’t pay up avios to force open a seat.

You could make the booking but I seem to recall someone posting recently that one of your trips would be cancelled by BA nearer the departure time.
Would it be worth using a new 241 to get 1 award seat though? Are there no redemption seats in any cabin available? It seems odd there would be 8 in (presumably) cw and none in any other cabin. What’s the destination – and have you got time to wait and see if any further seats become available?

One lot of avios and 2 sets of fees and surcharges plus using a 2-4-1 seems an expensive way to get someone on a flight

What are the figures on buying a cash ticket and using avios you’d spend on the 2-4-1 to reduce the cost so you’re only spending the same amount of cash as if you were using the voucher?

Cash price is £5k (summer holidays 🙄) so the 2x taxes plus avios still looks ok.

Premium Economy is available so probably going to do that, shame as rest of the family in Club. Keep fingers crossed for a cheeky upgrade.

If it’s a fairly long flight you could all do a stint in PE!

Assuming this is for yourself plus two companions, one of whom was on the original 2-4-1 booking and the other you now want to add.

I wonder if you could make a second booking with the new 2-4-1 for yourself and the new companion, then ask BA to amend your original booking to remove you and leave just your original companion on that booking. I don’t see why they wouldn’t and you’d probably get the original 2-4-1 voucher returned plus your taxes and fees on that booking refunded (less a change/cancellation fee).

I think it’s worth a conversation with the call centre about it if you can get through to them.

One downside if you originally booked before BA’s two recent rounds of fee hikes is that you’d pay the increased fees on the new booking whilst the refund would be for the fees you paid at the time of the original booking.

Alternatively as a fallback if that doesn’t work….

I’m sure I saw someone say that the new style vouchers open up the additional availability for larger groups when you use them. If that is true you could simply start again with a new booking for three people using a new style 2-4-1 and cancel the old.

That would of course mean everyone has to pay the latest fees and you’d have 2x cancellation fees on the original booking.
