Trying to book Dublin – LHR – MIA outbound and MIA – LHR inbound as the taxes fees etc are pennies. Tried doing online & can’t do it,
No problem starting & finishing in Dublin
Phoned VA to try over the phone & they too, say it can’t be done
Any thoughts
This would usually be because the fares are non combinable, designed to try and prevent what you wish to do.
I’d book the return, go HBO, and drop the last leg. I’d think Virgin are unlikely to punish a consumer for doing that (but book direct, not via a travel agent, as the agent may be penalised).
Hand baggage doesn’t work for 2 weeks in US
If you have the fare basis code (the website can give that to you when you get through to the checkout, as can an agent), then I can look up the restrictions. But, I think that this is likely by design. I think you’d have better chance if VS had a way to get you to DUB that didn’t involve booking on another unaffiliated IATA member (i.e. EI or BA in this case). If you’re flexible, you might try ex-AMS/CDG for a KL/AF connection.

Consider shipping your luggage home. There’s a few companies that will pick up from you in the US and deliver home for less than £100.
