    Hi,
    I keep getting an error when I try to change an economy long haul avios booking that I made for my girlfriend. It fails at the payment stage for the £35 change fee.
    I’ve not had this before.
    Suspect the reason is that I modified the booking over the phone due to a typo in her surname.
    I have enough avios to buy the replacement flight before I cancel the other.
    However the concern I have is that it also doesn’t seem possible to cancel my current booking online. It makes me fill out a generic request form and warns me it is not for avios bookings and I will have to wait 7 days for any applicable refund (which is beyond the original travel date). Any suggestions before I spend another 2 hours on hold to BA?

    I just cancelled a flight using that “form”.

    If it is the same, when you click cancel it sort of says “fill the following and we will refund your money at some point”. It asks for way too much (address, email, phone, …)

    I remember in the past it was easier with simply a tick box to confirm you wanted to cancel.

    The form also does not mention Avios but just cash.

    But I can confirm it works. By the end of the day I had my avios back so I don’t know why they make it look like it is going to take so long when it feels pretty automated.

    Yes sounds like the same one. Doesn’t tell you what the refund will be but says I’ll have to accept it whatever it is! And that I shouldn’t cancel avios bookings this way even though the link comes from the ‘manage my booking’ screen. Great IT!

    I suppose I’ll give it a go and call if nothing comes in by Monday.

    Just did two further cancellations and got the Avios refund a few hours later.

    Avios back into my account but no sign of the cash. I guess I’ll give it a week before enduring the call centre lottery.
