Hi,
I would like to book a flight for Avios that is available on Iberia website but not BA. Unfortunately, I am not technically able to transfer my Avios to Iberia.
Amex MR points transfers to Iberia do not work for “new” accounts with 9 digit numbers – this has been broken for at least a year and still seems an issue.
When I try to use BA “combine Avios” I get another error – I tried many browsers and it does not help. My Iberia account is older than 90 days and I “earned” 1 Avios by transferring 1 Revolut point there. It might not be enough because when I log to my Iberia account it says “Sorry, you currently don’t meet the conditions to combine Avios with British Airlines, Vueling or Aer Club.”
Could it be that transferring an Avios does not work anymore to activate the account? The conditions now state “For active accounts (an account is considered to be active if in the last 36 months there have been transactions where Avios have been earned or used, excluding expiry or transfer of Avios between customers or programmes)”?
In any case I would appreciate any suggestions how I can get some Avios into my Iberia account.
Thanks
The combine my avios can be fraught with difficulty. I used some of the tips in this thread :
You mean using avios.com page? I cannot find any way to log in there. It only asks me to open a new account with BA/Iberia.
The linked article has dated somewhat as avios.com was retired and replaced by aerclub. The principle should remain the same though – open an aer club account – transfer avios to aerclub and then onwards to iberia. Thats what i did as a workaround with the 9 digit Iberia account. I do note you are getting the “Sorry, you currently don’t meet the conditions to combine Avios with British Airlines, Vueling or Aer Club” message which i didnt experience, but you might want want to try a small avios transfer from amex to aerclub to see if that works in removing that message. Failing that, im out of ideas!
I had a similar problem beginning of last year. I ended up having to use my Iberia Plus number on a flight to get some initial Avios and Tier points into my account. After that, Combine my Avios has worked fine. I didn’t have the Revolut option though so can’t confirm if that works or not.
Yes before you can transfer avios to Iberia, your Iberia account needs to have been opened for at least 90 days AND you must have earnt at least 1 avios by flying or other means (I completed some surveys to do this). Once these are met, I then had to fill in my personal passport information for combine my avios on the Iberia site to work, it’s quite a faff
