Got an email from the front desk team informing us that whilst we were staying they will be setting the hotel up for a live music event and there is likely to be some disruption as a result. One of the restaurants will be shut as will the rainforest experience in the Spa, both of which we’d like to have used.
I responded to politely ask if there was anything else they could offer to offset this loss of the amenities and they responded to say that the other restaurant would be open.
What do people think is reasonable here? Would it be better to ask again upon arrival?
In my experience, in a similarly touristy place, I’ve got a couple drinks voucher and a few thousand points only, unfortunately. YMMV, but you may directly contact Marriott, too perhaps.
A long time ago now we had a hotel stay in Thailand ruined by a setup for a ticketed Chinese New Year party, without any warning they built a stage outside our terrace and closed the pool to set up decorations! Neither the hotel or Expedia wanted to know and we ended up paying again to go elsewhere. The bizzare thing was we drove past the hotel the night of the event and there was no one there.
Agree with @can2 they’re likely to do very little so I wouldn’t get your hopes up, you could try mailing the GM in advance to express your dissapointment, you can often find their details online with a bit of sleuthing
Free tickets to the music event?
Restaurant being closed is a bit meh there are other choices so suspect you won’t get far here.
But how has the music event closed the rainforest experience in the spa? Are they just coincidentally closing the spa for the whole stay? It’s probably the one I’d complain about.
I think the only argument that would work is that you preferred a peaceful holiday, and this causes you stress and disturbs your peace. And the spa was one of the major reasons why you chose the RC Al Wadi.
Thanks all for the advice. The event itself is the day we check out so we won’t be disturbed by that, just the set up.
Agree there is an alternative option but they mentioned that it will be running a BBQ in the evenings so given we have a couple of vegetarians amongst our family of four that could be interesting.
It does seem that the closure of the rainforest experience is not connected to the rest of the set up so we’ll have to see how we get in speaking to them about that once we arrive – I’ll report back
@SamG I would have rinitiated a dispute with the credit card provider as services not provided and for inaccurate descriptions on Expedia…
I would ask for one night comped as a minimum or rebooking elsewhere in a similar type of property. It will also depend on whether you prepaid or it’s pay on checkout, etc.
I suspect they may want people to cancel so they can sell the rooms to event attendees. Otherwise they wouldn’t be closing the spa…
