Worth noting that I tried to make a booking using the plat as the payment card, and both the melia app and website seemingly don’t take AMEX (3DS authentication issues at checkout).
Upon querying this with AMEX CS, apparently the only way to guarantee Melia benefits is to book through the plat concierge. I did also then query what the point of partnering with a brand that doesn’t even accept the method of payment but didn’t get an answer back.
As always YMMV but wanted to give everyone a heads up for it.
@CyberMan I just did a pre-pay on desktop and it worked fine albeit paid using BA Amex (with £75 off £300 cashback which doesn’t work on mobile app per T&C). It did ask for the MFA code sent by text.
There are a number of peculiarities in addition to your experience:
1. I could only apply all of my points or none to the booking where there used to be a handy slider for the 2000pts sweet spot of discount.
2. Amex cashback £75 off £300 doesn’t work on mobile. However very cunning in that mobile rate is £833 and desktop rate is £877 for my stay. So desktop minus cashback is cheaper than mobile, but still very odd to have disparity between channels and hopefully the cashback triggers!
3. I had trouble applying my 20% code on the desktop version no matter what but got there in the end.
Notwithstanding all of these pain points, I must say their wonder week and Black Friday deals are awesome when stacked with Plat 20% discount. We just returned from the CdSol where one week half board for a family of four in half term was €950 on a refundable rate, which was frankly bonkers.
Well my points re-appeared in the app, along with a 5% discount, so my booking has gone now down from €818 to €643! ¡Muy feliz!
The app became horrible when they did that big update last year.
I see from the comments above, I’m not the only one who struggles with it these days.
Just cancelled my booking from a week ago in the app, applied new discounts and reduced price from £700 to £406. Well spotted.
Thanks for the heads up. Been tracking the price of a 10 day holiday and made a real saving today. None of those fake sales you can sometimes get with other operators. Also Amex worked fine for me, albeit the refundable rate.
Im looking to make a booking and part points is not showing as an option anywhere, would this possibly be due to not having any points? Well I actually have 2 somehow, and am waiting for some from my stay last week which seem slower to post than normal.
As the above post the last time booked i bought 2k for €10 which saved me about £70 so just trying to see if i can get the same again.
I have done this recently and it worked each time.
A word of warning on Amex / Melia
I switched to a non refundable, pay now rate to avail of the £75 off £300 (hotel on list) and went ahead on Saturday. Of course now in sale – great. Transaction showing this morning.
Cashback didn’t track and asked Amex chat what happened. They confirmed payment merchant address is in Palma de Mallorca so asked me for a receipt which I didn’t have. I pointed out T&Cs point to online spend too and they are raising an internal escalation with SLA 10 days for response. Of course I only have a booking confirmation which references the actual hotel, which is on the list.
In my example:
– desktop rate far higher than mobile rate for the reservation, but I used desktop to make booking to get the cashback
– £30 of FX fees thrown in for good measure
– Pay now / no flexibility at all
I should be (just a little) quidsin in the event the escalation works in my favour (and it should) but be warned as I’m in the hands of the cashback Gods now.

Just following up on my previous post, I had my points post from a stay a few weeks ago. I must have previously set up an auto transfer to BA as they instantly went over to my avios balance (14k melia points became 4.2k avios).
I was left with 320 points so purchased 1680 more from melia for €8.40 to leave with me with exactly 2k. Looking to make another booking in the wonder week offer and the 2k points gets me an additional £105 discount which is a great outcome!
