Forums › Payment cards › Barclaycard Avios › Upgrade voucher – Adding return leg
-
A while ago I asked the question as to whether it was possible to book an outbound leg at 355 days with the Barclays upgrade voucher, and then add on the return leg when it became available. At the time Rob said it was too early to tell.
I can confirm that this is possible. I made both a BAPP 2-4-1 booking and an upgrade voucher booking and was able to add on the return leg for both of them in the same call, paying only premium economy Avios for the business return.
Apologies if this has already been posted.
Thanks for posting as I was curios about the same scenario. No doubt it will be down to the agent you talk to.
What surcharges did you have to pay for the return on the upgrade voucher booking?
Thank you for posting. Along with the surcharge figure, it would be a helpful data point to know which destination you booked.
I had booked outbound off-peak business class flights to St Lucia online, 2 with a 2-4-1 (1 adult and 1 child) and 1 (adult) with the upgrade voucher. Separate bookings were required. For some reason the taxes for the child were less than for the adult. When I called the book the return leg, the advisor I spoke to also found the same on the return flights and was very surprised by this – they said they’d never seen a difference in the taxes before.
To add the return leg (business off-peak again), it cost a total of 62500 Avios plus £286.90 (adult) and £243 (child) in taxes for the 2-4-1 booking. For the Barclays upgrade voucher booking, the additional taxes matched the 2-4-1 taxes at £286.90, plus the 32500 Avios cost of a premium economy booking.
Things like this puzzle me so I did a dummy return booking and looked at the detailed fare breakdown and St Lucia does not charge children (under 12) the £ 4.20 passenger facility fee and the £ 44.20 airport service charge.

Hi @Sonicmatt – when you added the return flights on the Amex and Barclays vouchers was the agent able to reserve all 3 business return flights for you immediately or did you have to have him/her reserve the 2 for the Amex 2-4-1 leg first whilst hoping one was left to add to the Barclays voucher booking once the agent had finished the Amex 2-4-1 booking changes?
Thanks
