Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Upgrade voucher with two travelling

  • jamesturk 53 posts

I’m looking to book flights BHD to LCY in November to visit a new family arrival!

I have 1 upgrade voucher, so website wont allow me to book 2 people on the same booking with only 1 voucher

But then when I try to put in the dates for 1 person using a straight avios booking, it says that it can’t at the moment, and to try again

Any other options for me to try and book this online? or should I call BA to book?

What exactly are you trying to do? Do you want to upgrade 2 people, one way? This should be perfectly possible when you select the voucher, have you tried doing this?

Though I have to say it’s a poor use of the voucher, unless you really have no other use for it. You’ll barely be in the air long enough to have a drink and a bite to eat.

    Thanks NL

I’m trying to book 2 people, business class return BHD – LCY/ LHR, but with only 1 upgrade voucher (and simply pay the full avios-only fare for my wife).

Agree it’s terrible use of the voucher, but it expires in Jan and doubt I have another use for it.

Can’t I use it on the above booking? As system won’t seem to let me.

Just book as two one ways. Outbound for both of you using the voucher, and separately inbound without the voucher. It’ll only be 50p per person per leg to cancel, and this gives you more flexibility to change dates on the inbound, as you can cancel and rebook for 50p each, rather than pay £35 change fees.

+1 for this – you’ll also then be on the same booking both ways, which will make things slightly less complicated in the event of any disruption.

Perfect, thanks for the tip, that looks like it will work! 🙂

Lastly, there’s no lounge in London City? So may be better to work Business class Belfast to London city – as the lounge in BHD is fairly decent. But no point really booking Business from London city if no lounge?

    Thanks again!

Indeed – little point in business from LCY.

No lounge, no fast track, all seating 2+2 so no empty seat.

As they bring in the densified planes, business will guarantee better legroom and provide some form of food other than a snack but, for most, really not worth it.

If you’re going business one way then Belfast to City every time.

Yes, if you want a lounge, use the voucher on the outbound. You’re in a pretty rare situation here, actually, in that both legs begin in the UK so technically you can use the voucher on either.

Just a caveat – I recall there being issues with using the voucher on Euroflyer/Cityflyer (?), which I think might serve LCY, though no idea if this applies to BHD departures. Have you tried a dummy booking yet?

Plenty of point in booking ex LCY

I wouldn’t make the trek to LHR just for the lounge if LCY is closer to where you are located or the schedule is better .

Although this is a BA holiday I’m flying ex LCY in a couple of weeks because it was £ 50 cheaper than ex LHR

    Great advice, again thanks everyone.

Tried a dummy booking and yes we can book business from BHD to LCY. LCY meets our needs location wise more than LHR, so wouldn’t have booked Heathrow just for the lounges there.

Looks like using the voucher will save me 11,500 avios so better than nothing given I thought it would have expired in January! : )

Definitely some use is better than no use! I’ve used 2 on short haul (though both 3 hours+ !) and been happy with the value.
