Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Apologies if I have missed it, but is there any thread on here where people post how much they have paid in £ or avios to upgrade just before a flight at the airport check in desk? Seems like it would be a helpful thing to know. I recently upgraded at the airport and whilst the price seemed OK to me I have no idea if it was a typical price or if I have been done up like a kipper.

You can’t use avios to upgrade at the airport.

It depends on which cabin you upgrade from and to and also the route

I was quoted £ 719 on Wednesday for CW – F LHR – JFK when I asked. Last year it was £500 for almost the same date. I declined the former but not the latter.

What was your route, cabin upgrade and charge?

I flew LHR-MLE on 5/1 and paid £702 to go from WT to CW (club suite). I thought you couldn’t use avios at the airport but was quoted some bizarre number (84,650 from memory) to do the upgrade – not sure the person on the other end of the phone had a clue what they were doing. I was also checking in at the First wing so was expecting them to be a bit more on the ball than they were.

We were offered £55O for WTP to CW from SFO to LHR this April 2022. We declined.
