Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Upgrading card – does previous spend count?

  • 5 posts

Sorry if this has already been asked. I have trawled through the sub and couldn’t find it anywhere. We are getting married in September and have a lot of expenses that can be paid on Mastercard but not Amex. Venue and Accomodation is one of them.

However; my use year ended on the 22nd July and i wasn’t able to upgrade for the last two months. I’ve just upgraded with the new card being available from the 23rd August. Unfortunately my accomodation is due on the 13th. I can still spend on my free barclaycard up until that point – i’m not super concerned about losing 0.5 avios, but will this count towards my upgraded card spend? or will it reset when the new card comes? Its about 7k so goes a long way towards it.

    thanks
    Jodi

The spend resets when you change card (and you can start earning another voucher), but I’m not sure why it’s going to take so long to get the new card?

Upgraded Barclaycard always starts from the next statement date, by implication the 23rd.

If you haven’t got one, should have time to get a free Curve card. I think that still offers one go back in time per month, to put the payment(s) somewhere else initially then move them to the Barclaycard later.

Would lose S75 protection of course.

Yes, if it’s accommodation abroad you want as much protection as you can get. I only use Curve for payment at the end of a satisfactory stay!

Venue and accommodation is in one package and I’ve already paid the deposit on a credit card so covered from Sec 75 pov. I will look into curve

Forgot to say that Curve Lite would only work for a GBP transaction, its £250 per month foreign limit won’t get you anything worthwhile.
