Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Upgrading one leg of a Tirana-LHR-EDI ticket

    Hi all,

Looking to fulfil a lifelong ambition and visit Albania on the way back from Greece (in the 1980s, journalists and people with beards were banned, so I was in double trouble then!)

There is Avios availability for CE from Tirana to LHR, but none to Edinburgh (except on the 11pm flight!)

Do I just splash out on CE, or is there any way I can upgrade with Avios for just the one leg?

You can upgrade one leg but you need to call to do so. When you call, select the option to change a cash booking. When I did it I first selected the Avios booking option and the nice lady told me she couldn’t do it (although she knew how) so I had to call back.

I was told that because I called within 24 hours of booking there would be no change fee and as I could not do this online there was no offline booking fee.

I was charged the difference in Avios between a CE Avios booking and an economy booking but based upon the £1 cash and max Avios price. There was no further cash to pay.

I do wonder if the agents make it up on the spot half the time though so your mileage may vary.

That all sounds correct Froggee. It’s not the best value now that they take the difference in “£1” prices but not a terrible deal vs cash usually (especially on a connecting flight where you won’t get a special offer in MMB)

For the purposes of these calculations, is the base Avios Tirana-LHR no longer 10,000 as it used to be (20,000 in CE)? This £1 + X Avios nonsense has artificially increased the number of Avios required to fly anywhere with RFS, subject to being able to reduce the Avios to a sensible level by paying more in cash.

    10500 or 12000 peak
