As above. Between my wife and I we’ve had free BA for years and Gold between us.
Had Hilton Gold which was great however just downgraded to silver so thinking of going for Plat for various reasons, just not sure of a couple of bits.
1. If I sign up now will we both keep Hilton Gold until 31st March 2026? Same for Marriott what expiry date is likely on Gold if I sign up? Rob refers to “naturally expiring” but not sure what that means date wise.
2. Will my wife and I (if she’s a supp) both get the same hotel status?
3. Is it worth ringing Amex to see if they do any kind of offer on Plat?
4. How does the UK and international restaurant dining credit work? Do I just spend and then wait for a credit up to the value of £150?
Sorry just can’t seem to find the answers to the questions before I bite the bullet
Thanks
Add your wife as plat supplementary cardholder ( after you receive your plat card), then you both will get all hotel status.
Hotel status supposed to continue as long as you hold plat card until the end of hotel loyalty program year. But some status, especially Hilton continues even long after cancelling plat card. Obviously you can’t rely on this.
Most plat offers will be highlighted on this website or Amex website. If you are not getting referred (the referror get points), might as well go through HfP so that HfP gets some commission from Amex.
Thanks. I was just thinking if I apply now (assuming I get accepted) then a year later takes me/us to beyond the Hilton yearly expiry status date of 31st March 2025, hence I assume I would keep it until the 31st March 2026, if I don’t keep up the required nights?
Correct, assuming you keep the plat for a year.
Thanks. Any knowledge about how the dining credit works in reality?
Re: the dining credits. Yes, just use your Platinum card at one of the restaurants in the list, and wait for the credit to be applied. If you spend less than £150, then you can use the remaining balance elsewhere. Make sure you have enrolled in the dining credit offer beforehand. If the offer doesn’t immediately appear, go on chat and they can apply it for you.
Btw, there is an offer available to upgrade from Gold to Platinum, for 40k MR when you spend £6k in 3 months. If you applied directly, you wouldn’t get a bonus as you currently have an MR earning card (assuming the person that holds the Gold is the one applying for Plat).
