I will need to book a roundtrip Miami/Inverness for Feb/March 2024 on specific dates. I will have Amex 241 voucher and 2 x Barclaycard ‘Upgrade’ vouchers (ie enough for 2 persons round-trip.) My difficulty is that while I will be able to book the outward flight in late February 2023 I may be unable to book return flight by phone (if using Amex voucher) until after the release date in mid March 2023. Might it be possible to book outward with Barclaycard, then when available return with Barclaycard and when I am able to phone cancel them and redeem same seats with Amex? Or is it even worth doing that? I’d appreciate it if anyone has got the taxes/fees and Avios points needed to hand to make a comparison. I’ve tried a dummy on BA Website but got message that I can’t book flights originating outwith UK with Barclaycard redemption.
You can do a couple of dummy bookings to get the costs. What’s your exact routing? If you’re starting in MIA you can’t use the BC voucher, it’s ex-UK only. Any reward booking would also cost you a fortune in extra surcharges because of the way BA prices up departures from the US (if you want a CW or F).
If you end up cancelling, there’s no guarantee of the seats becoming available again, which you need to bear in mind.
