I’d like to try to book BHX to SYD on Qatar in business using Avios. I’ve read and re read the article on why it makes sense compared to BA but I still have questions.
How many business class seats do they release per flight? Do I need to snag them 355 days out and then go back and rebook the return leg ?
Does this even matter as clearly can’t use a 241 ? Will booking two one ways cost the same in Avios and taxes as a return ? I’m seeing no availability on BA website but perhaps I’m doing something wrong.

This answers most of your questions https://www.headforpoints.com/2023/02/09/qatar-airways-avios-redemption-chart-from-uk/

Register an account at Qatar, link it to your BAEC account. Then if you find availability on the Qatar site your Avios will be pulled through automatically when you book.

I found the best place to see availability was the Alaskan website, especially as you can limit it to business class. Also try searching for each segment separately and match up the dates yourself.

Do I need to fear being downgraded on Qatar? I’ve never once had this happen on BA ( only the opposite.)if Qatar do downgrade,is it an option to be put on a flight the next day in the class booked ?

I’ve just looked at Alaskan, still no availability between today and dec 15th for the Dona to SYD leg. Am I doing something wrong or is there likely to be nothing ? I can’t see how to limit the search to business class.
    Sorry for being so useless.

Good tip on the Alaska site – QR is annoying because it lets you select premium redemptions but doesn’t seem to apply a filter!

Note that QR do mess with married segment availability so just because A-B and B-C are showing, that’s no guarantee that A-B-C will be there for a through ticket.

Same here for a range of Oz cities. That is odd.
