Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Using BA Avios for a multi-city trip to Australia without 2for1

Sadly, no 2 for 1 voucher. We are a family of 4 so most likely we will stick to economy flights. I just wanted to ask what the best way to save Avios would be. I was thinking of booking a one way with Avios for us to Sydney, taking a stopover in Singapore (stopover doesn’t cost extra it seems). We don’t want a return from Sydney as would like to explore the Far East before returning from say, Honk Kong as I have read it has lower taxes to London and when I searched as two separate legs, it does show lower taxes. My main question is does this sound feasible or is this not a good way to use Avios? I understand I will need to book separate legs from Sydney to HK or some other city we wish to visit such as Bangkok. Would I be better off putting it all in a multi-leg itinerary? If yes, are BA agents happy to go over different scenarios since BA’s website doesn’t allow multicity bookings using Avios. I have about 300,000 Avios so the tax I pay would be substantial. I don’t want to pay a huge amount in cash though and as I said, don’t want Lon-Syd return as we wish to explore other countries on our way back. Would appreciate some guidance. Does anyone have an itinerary/routes that utilises Avios to the maximum where going to the Far East and Australia is concerned?

Have you looked at the articles and threads on using avios on Qatar? There are few worked examples re travelling to OZ, it’s often better value than BA, as well as a better flying experience!

Thanks, do people book on BA site for QR as I am in a household account so I am not sure if I can transfer them easily to QR. Also, the QR ones I looked on BA website were somehow more expensive or often giving error as in not showing Avios pricing.

You might be interested in this thread, although you’re not going RTW, the principles are the same, in particular the rule about pricing based on longest sector.

Also, similar info on FT BAEC forum, if you want some additional input.

If you would be using Avios from the Household account, AFAIK you will have to do it via BA, as per this.

Thanks Alan, very informative. Not sure if anyone noticed, but I was having issues with seeing prices for HKG to LON this morning but other routes were fine. Now I see for the exact same date in Aug 2025 that I looked at yesterday, taxes have gone up by £9 per person. I know it for sure as I took a screenshot yesterday.
